Exhibition Mine and Mining Museum<br />
“Kleinenbremen” – Porta Westfalica<br />
The showmine “Kleinenbremen” is situated in part in a<br />
disused iron ore mine in the “Wesergebirge” where ore<br />
was mined until the 1960s. Guided by experienced miners,<br />
visitors discover the <strong>und</strong>ergro<strong>und</strong> world on foot and<br />
by rail and glimpse enormous caverns in the ghostly<br />
light. Visitors can also see a large <strong>und</strong>ergro<strong>und</strong> lake,<br />
known as the ‘Blue Lagoon’. The museum for mining<br />
industry and Earth history illustrates the development of<br />
the mining industry and of changes in working conditions<br />
over time.<br />
53 Erlebniswelt Steinzeichen –<br />
Steinbergen<br />
Die Erlebniswelt Steinzeichen ist ein erdgeschichtlicher<br />
Erlebnis- <strong>und</strong> Freizeitpark, der im Zuge der Weltausstellung<br />
EXPO 2000 als dezentrales Projekt <strong>auf</strong>gebaut<br />

‘Steinzeichen’ is a theme and leisure park focusing on<br />
the Earth’s history. It was designed as an independent<br />
project as part of the World Exhibition EXPO 2000.<br />
Convent Gravenhorst – Hörstel<br />
The convent was fo<strong>und</strong>ed in 1256 and used by the Cistercian<br />
order until 1811. Since 2004 the building houses a<br />
restaurant as well as the art gallery Gravenhorst.<br />
55 Erholungsgebiet Torfmoorsee <strong>und</strong><br />
Gesteinslehrpfad – Hörstel<br />
Der Torfmoorsee ist ein etwa 24 ha großer Badesee. Ein<br />
etwa 2,5 km langer R<strong>und</strong>wanderweg, der zugleich mit<br />
einem Wald- <strong>und</strong> einem geologischen Lehrpfad gekoppelt<br />
ist, umgeben den See. Der geologische Lehrpfad besteht<br />
aus insgesamt 23 verschiedenen Gesteinen, über deren<br />
Herkunft <strong>und</strong> Geschichte jeweils Informationstafeln<br />

Recreation area “Torfmoorsee”<br />
and stone nature trail – Hörstel<br />
The peat bog lake covers an area of approximately 24<br />
hectares and is a popular bathing lake. It is surro<strong>und</strong>ed<br />
by a 2.5 km long circular walk which is linked to educational<br />
forest and geological trails. On the geological trail<br />
information panels provide details of the origin and geological<br />
history of a total of 23 different rock types.<br />
