Visitor mine and
Geological Educational Trail
Hüggel – Hasbergen
World-altering processes have characterised the 225 m
high mountain with the name “Hüggel” and made it to an
area with many geological special features.
The newly opened northernmost visitor mine in Germany
provides sensational insight into the history of the earth.
The rock of the Hüggel provides information about the
cata-clysmic events of the past millions of years. Would
you like to find out how the mountains and valleys came
to be? Why on the Hüggel ancient rock appears at the surface
that can otherwise only be found in the wider vicinity
at great depths? How the good quality of the iron ore is
explained and what it was used for? Visit the former mine
(only possible in the con-text of a tour!) and find the answers
to these questions and more. You can book tours of
the visitor mine directly at the Nature and Geopark TERRA.
vita. You will find more information at our Internet site.
Answers are also provided at 23 stations on the two Geological
Educational Trails. The stations serve as “windows
on the history of the earth”. The educational trails are
always accessible at no charge, and tours are possible
upon request.
