ambassador and later on after finishing
school, I was their technical advisor for
five months. I was also in a Microsoft
committee.” In DOULUS, Bright and a
fellow member, Eric Omondi, whom he
refers to as Omosh, came up with a skit
for preaching the Gospel, called Kungpow,
which they performed every orientation
week. . He was also a break dancer with
the Paramedikz, a group of dancers and
rappers.
Even before he graduated from
Daystar University, Bright had received
his first job offer with Cellulant, where he
began working a week after graduating. He
applied for a scholarship and was awarded
US$ 10,000 for his masters in South Korea.
After completion, he was awarded another
scholarship for his Ph.D.
“I was not an “A” student. I even got
some Fs and Ds, but now am an all-As
student. I am specializing in what I love,
and apply it in the companies where
I do consultancy here in Korea. I also
participate in bootcamps, where we train
students on information technology, but
because of the distance I teach via Google
hangout. We have had bootcamps in
Strathmore University and United States
International University (USIU) and plans
for coming to Daystar are underway,
not just for the bootcamps, but because
Daystar is home,” he says.
He says cannot forget how Daystar
University shaped his life.
“Not everybody has access to
computers, but Daystar University had
all the facilities I needed. I studied online
courses and was a consultant for various
companies while still at Daystar University.
Mr. Tony Mbogo, Network Services
Administrator and Dr. Jon Masso, Senior
Lecturer at Daystar University and the
easy going administrators all contributed
towards helping me reach where I am,” he
reminisces.
While he is good in hacking, he says
he remains ethical and does not use it
for ulterior purposes. One of his major
achievements is AfricaHackOn, which
he co-founded with a friend. “It was the
first hacking conference in Africa and the
turnout was very impressive. Their main
aim is to teach people and not just show
them how hacking happens,” he says.
He adds: “Most hacking conferences
just have theoretical talks on hacking;
no one shows how it happens. One way
to raise awareness is to make people
know how hacking is done. People should
get more security ideas, but this will be
effective when they know what they are up
against.”
Bright is pursuing his Ph.D in Applied
all’ goals. An ardent crusader for the education cause, Catherine
designs and implements projects championing the right to free and
quality basic education for all.
Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, she
plans to continue her advocacy work on the rights to quality basic
