the contest. This was the most important part
of the judging process and Pambazuka CEO
Leakey Odera emphasized the importance of it in
the MMUK competition. He also added that the
pageant is not all about modelling but giving back
to the society which makes it unique from all the
rest of the pageants. The remaining 40 % was
based on the modelling skills and performance
that night.
Finally, the event came to a close with the
judges recognizing Miss Congeniality and Mr.
Personality of the program. These went to Miss
USIU Africa, Irene Jima and Mr. Maseno University
runner up Ashton Chinga, respectively. The final
moment came to reckon the winners of Mr. and
Miss University Kenya 2015. MC Obina had a
good time playing with the crowd and keeping
them in suspense. Finally, He announced the
winners starting from the 2nd runners up Miss
Moi University and Mr. Maseno University, 1st
runners up Miss Catholic University and
Mr. Kenyatta University and the
Winners Miss USIU Africa and Mr.
Daystar University.
The event came to a close a little after 5am
with the new winners busting with joy amongst
numerous interviews and photos by the
journalists and photographers. In disbelief, David
Julius thanked all family, friends and Daystar
Community for their support and thanked God
for bringing this victory to Daystar University.
He also added that without God none of this
would have happened as it was a journey of faith,
learning important lessons in life and overcoming
challenges in which God saw him through it all.
Rachael, former Miss Daystar added that she was
happy for David as his victory is also her victory
and a win for Daystar University. She recounted
the competition as an amazing experience that
was challenging but worth it all. We wish you well
Mr. University and may you continue shining the
light of Daystar brighter.
A brief recount of my experience in the
MMUK journey which started 3 months ago and
ended on the 31st of May is nothing short of a
cherished memory. We started with trainings
each weekend at Hekima Gardens, off Ngong
road on Saturdays and at times on Sundays. We
would do runway walks, cardio training sessions
and dance routines led by seasoned runway
choreographer Asyago Brian Coke (ABC) and top
dance choreographer Philips popularly known as
Ipupa after the dancer and Musician Fally Ipupa.
We would also go for charity visits at various
children’s homes and spend time with them
teaching, singing and dancing with them as well
as donate foodstuff and other items they needed.
We also celebrated three of our birthdays as
the MMUK family with them and it was a great
joy and sight to inspire hope, will and happiness
in these young lives. We then had a boot camp
training in Diani Mombasa for four days where
we had time to bond as a family, rehearse for the
final day and make the last touches to the event.
We had a photo shoot as well and it was nothing
short of amazing fun, learning experience as
well as knowing each other on a personal level.
After the boot camp, we were ready to bring the
show and we were a tighter knight family that
embraced each other. What I can say is that this
pageant is one of the best things that has ever
happened to me as a student and in my life. The
wisdom, knowledge and experience I got from
the whole program to date is worth a lifetime
treasure that will always be meaningful and
applicable in every single day of my life. I thank
God for it all and I also thank Pambazuka CEO
Leaky Odera for his great role in it all. I also must
thank Mr. Kilonzo for helping in sponsoring me
and Rachael and the whole Daystar community
for your support and encouragement. God Bless
