I
take this opportunity to express my
most sincere congratulations to the
graduating class of 2015. It brings me
pride to see the joy in your faces as you
celebrate the culmination of your studies
at Daystar University. As we usher you
into the job market, we have confidence
that you have acquired adequate skills
that will enable you to successfully
navigate through life, especially in the
market place. As you walk into any office,
walk tall knowing that you have what it
takes to perform any kind of tasks given
to you.
This ceremony would not be complete
if did not mention some very important
people in our midst today. I would like
to particularly appreciate your parents,
sponsors, spouses and faculty members,
for their effort in helping you realize your
dreams. You would not be celebrating
today if these great people did not
sacrifice their resources to ensure that
you complete your studies.
Ladies and gentlemen, the Kenya’s
Vision 2030 strategy is specifically tailored
to focus on reforms and development in
eight key sectors, among them Science,
Technology and Innovation (STI). In line
with this, the University has continued to
introduce new programmes in Science
and Technology particularly in Biomedical
Science, Environmental Science, Public
Health, Computer Science and Nursing.
This year alone, the university has
introduced two majors in the School of
Science, Engineering and Health, namely

studies”.
Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science
and Bachelor of Science in Biomedical
Science, both of which were accredited by
the Commission for University Education
(CUE) at the beginning of this year. Other
majors offered in the School include
Applied Computer Science, Environmental
Health, and Nursing. At this point, I would
like to congratulate our pioneer class in
Nursing, who graduated in June, 2014 for
passing their Nursing Council Licensing
and Registration Exam. These graduates
have already been employed and posted
by the Ministry of Health, a confirmation
that our students are well prepared for
the market. Also in keeping with the need
to produce quality graduates in Science
and Technology, the University has put
up modern laboratories for Physics,
Biology and Biochemistry, Electronic and
Computer Science, and has continued to
upgrade these labs with state-of-the-art
equipment.
Additionally, over the years Daystar
University has collaborated with
other institutions of higher learning
in the area of research, organizing
conferences and in student and faculty
exchange programmes. The University
has positioned itself and engaged in
training and value addition for corporate
companies. From September 2014 to
March 2015 our Institute of Leadership
and Professional Development (ILPD)
conducted a six months training program
for Family Bank managers from all over
the country, dubbed “Transformative
Leadership for Growth.” In this program,
ILPD imparted leadership skills to
Family Bank managers, as well as to the
executive committee of the bank. It is
during this training that Family Bank
posted its highest turnover compared to
the previous years. Daystar University
warmly congratulates Family Bank for the
impressive performance.
The University has also signed a
memorandum of understanding with
North-West University, South Africa. The
collaboration which was signed in March
2015 entails academic exchange program
for both undergraduate and postgraduate
students.
