2 Corinthians 1:3-5<br />

Needs:<br />

• Small squares of colored paper, such as sticky notes,<br />

squares of craft paper, pages from a rainbow colored<br />

note-block, etc.<br />

• Marker pens.<br />

• Paper glue sticks.<br />

• Plain copy paper.<br />

• Optional - laminator and pouches.<br />

What you do:<br />

• Create a patchwork of colored paper squares. Do<br />

this on your own or with your family.<br />

• Choose colored squares and write one comforting<br />

idea on each square of paper.<br />

• Stick all your squares onto a sheet of paper to make<br />

a paper ‘quilt’.<br />

• Take your paper ‘quilt’ away with you as a reminder<br />

to provide warm comfort for each other when life is<br />

tough, sad and painful.<br />

• You might like to laminate your ‘quilt’ or cover it<br />

with adhesive film.<br />

Experiencing comfort:<br />

• When did someone comfort you well?<br />

• What did they do and say?<br />

• How do you like to be best comforted ?<br />

• How do you know when someone in your family is<br />

sad and needs comforting?<br />

• How can your friends and family tell when you are sad<br />

and need comforting?<br />

6. Gratitude<br />

Give thanks in all circumstances for this is<br />

God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.<br />

1 Thessalonians 5:18<br />

Needs:<br />

• 26 letter squares from a game, or a magnetic<br />

letter toy.<br />

• A small fabric bag.<br />

• Blank greeting cards, marker pens, collage<br />

materials and paper glue, etc.<br />

What you do:<br />

• Take turns pull a letter out of the bag.<br />

• Think of at least 3 things to thank God for beginning<br />

with your letter. If you pick an ‘X’ think about words<br />

that begin with ‘eX’, as in ‘excitement’.<br />

Optional:<br />

• If there are any card-making supplies on the table you<br />

can use to make a thank you card for God.<br />

• Write Him a note thanking Him for all the things<br />

you are grateful for right now. Your card is like a<br />

prayer of thankfulness to Him. He sees and knows<br />

what you have written to Him.<br />

Experiencing gratitude everyday:<br />

• Talk about all the things you have to be thankful for.<br />

• Say thank you to someone else every day.<br />

• Keep a thank you diary and write at least three<br />

things you’re thankful for every day.<br />

7. Inspiration Trophies<br />

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever<br />

is true, whatever is noble, whatever<br />

is right, whatever is pure, whatever<br />

is lovely, whatever is admirable - if<br />

anything is excellent or praiseworthy -<br />

think about such things.<br />

Philippians 4:8<br />

Needs:<br />

• Plain paper.<br />

• Marker pens.<br />

• Pencils and erasers.<br />

What you do:<br />

• Think about someone who inspires you.<br />

• It might be a family member, a friend, a famous<br />

person, a missionary, a Bible character.<br />

• Design a trophy for them. Perhaps you could create<br />

a shape that expresses what you find inspiring.<br />

• Write their name on the trophy, and the reasons<br />

why and how they inspire you.<br />

• Show your trophies to each other and talk about<br />

the people who inspire you to develop your<br />

character and nurture your spiritual gifts.<br />

Being inspired:<br />

• What inspires you most?<br />

• What have other people inspired you to do?<br />

• How do you find inspiration when you need it?<br />

• How can you help to inspire each other?
