Kenya’s F<strong>in</strong>ancial Transformation <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>21st</strong> <strong>Century</strong><br />
She has a background <strong>in</strong> economics and agricultural economics and worked<br />
<strong>in</strong> development organisations for eight years before jo<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g academia. She<br />
<strong>in</strong>vestigates <strong>the</strong> means through which social and cultural factors <strong>in</strong>fluence<br />
<strong>the</strong> economy and markets, especially <strong>the</strong>ir embeddedness <strong>in</strong> social relations.<br />
She has researched and written extensively <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> field of microf<strong>in</strong>ance and<br />
f<strong>in</strong>ancial access, analys<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>ir gender dimensions, <strong>the</strong> role of <strong>in</strong>formal<br />
f<strong>in</strong>ancial services and <strong>the</strong> impact of <strong>in</strong>terventions on poverty.<br />
Michael K<strong>in</strong>g is Assistant Professor at <strong>the</strong> Department of Economics, Tr<strong>in</strong>ity<br />
College Dubl<strong>in</strong> and co-founder of Tr<strong>in</strong>ity’s Impact Evaluation Unit (TIME),<br />
which conducts a range of impact evaluations <strong>in</strong> develop<strong>in</strong>g countries. His<br />
research <strong>in</strong>terests focus on <strong>the</strong> microeconomics of development and he<br />
specialises <strong>in</strong> f<strong>in</strong>ancial <strong>in</strong>clusion and f<strong>in</strong>ancial sector development.<br />
Yihang Li is a PhD student <strong>in</strong> Economics at <strong>the</strong> University of Bath<br />
His research focuses on <strong>in</strong>centive <strong>the</strong>ory.<br />
Silvia Storchi is a PhD student at <strong>the</strong> University of Bath. Her research explores<br />
<strong>the</strong> concept of f<strong>in</strong>ancial capability and <strong>in</strong>vestigates how and to what extent<br />
<strong>the</strong> ways <strong>in</strong> which poor people engage with f<strong>in</strong>ancial and economic resources<br />
can improve <strong>the</strong>ir wellbe<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
Radha Upadhyaya is a Research Fellow at <strong>the</strong> Institute for Development<br />
Studies, University of Nairobi, where she teaches research philosophy and<br />
research methods (both quantitative and qualitative). She is a development<br />
economist and has been <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> policy reform and <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> restructur<strong>in</strong>g<br />
of a failed Kenyan bank, and has also served on <strong>the</strong> board of <strong>the</strong> Institute of<br />
Economic Affairs.<br />
Sunčica Vujić is an Associate Professor of Econometrics at <strong>the</strong> University<br />
of Antwerp and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at <strong>the</strong> University of Bath.<br />
Her research <strong>in</strong>terests are <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> field of applied microeconometrics and<br />
labour economics, with a focus on education, crime, health, gender, poverty<br />
and <strong>in</strong>equality. Her research on empirical development economics focuses<br />
on f<strong>in</strong>ancial capability and f<strong>in</strong>ancial <strong>in</strong>clusion, and <strong>the</strong> impact of f<strong>in</strong>ancial<br />
services on livelihoods of low-<strong>in</strong>come <strong>in</strong>dividuals and households, and <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
gender dimensions.<br />
Christopher B. Yenkey is an Assistant Professor of Organizations and Strategy<br />
at <strong>the</strong> University of Chicago Booth School of Bus<strong>in</strong>ess. His research extends<br />
organisation <strong>the</strong>ory <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> study of market development.
