amendments before the trees could be set
in. “Mark has worked tirelessly to improve the
soil,” says Kay. “Despite two years of adding
organic matter and about 80 trailer loads of
mulch and dolomite lime, currently only about
half the block is usable.
“The good news is that the soil is very
responsive and the areas that have had
organic matter added are producing well.
There is enormous satisfaction in turning
parched land into a rich, fertile environment.”
