Illawarra plum Podocarpus

Plant: Likes an area with good drainage.
Prefers temperate climates.
Size: To 5–10m in cultivation and also looks
fabulous in a large pot.
Dish it up: Adds a rich, unique flavour to
sauces and marinades or poach with your
favourite tipple.
Bush tomato Solanum centrale When is a
tomato not a tomato? When it’s the bush tucker
variety. This rambling plant has pale silver-green
foliage, tiny purple flowers and it fruits profusely.
It belongs to the Solanaceae family. The small
fruits can be eaten fresh or dried like raisins.
They taste a little like semi-dried tomato with a
pinch of brown sugar.
Plant: In well-drained soil, it grows liberally in
the wild in NT, SA and WA.
Size: To 45cm.
Dish it up: Adds tang to sauces and
relishes, or serve in an antipasto with a
selection of cheeses.
