In September, Sustainable Energy Technologies
Ltd. introduced a second-generation
5 kW inverter at the European
Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference in
Germany. The Calgary-based company is
now releasing two North America versions
of its new inverter, the Sunergy ELV 208
and the Sunergy LV 208 – both designed as
»extra low voltage power inverters.«
The ELV has a maximum input volt-
age of 120 V, while the LV can manage as
high as 150 V. Like the European models,
Xandex Inc., a veteran of the semiconductor
industry, launched a solar
unit two years ago. At Solar Power
2009, Xandex Solar will announce its
first PV product, the SunMizer DC po-
wer optimizer. Using a patent-pending
technology called Optimum I-V for PV,
Xandex says the SunMizer can effici-
ently recover power losses caused by
shading and other system interference.
According to Xandex, the SunMizer
does this by ignoring a system’s proper-
ly functioning modules. The units are
only installed on those modules that ge-
nerate less power than they should.
According to a preliminary datasheet
Sustainable Energy Technologies Ltd.: Stand 625
Extra low voltage power inverters
these inverters have 95 percent peak con-
version efficiency, and 94 percent CEC
[SN1]efficiency. Both inverters also have
modular designs. Each unit has a »trans-
former module« and a »power electronics
module,« which facilitates cost-efficient
mass production, and easy maintenance
access. Together the transformer module
and the inverter module weigh 78 kg.
Sustainable Energy Technologies offers a
7-year standard warranty, and optional 10
and 20-year warranties. The company also
5 kW inverters for the North
American market: the Sunergy
Power optimizers to use selective installation
from Xandex Solar, based in
Petaluma, California, the Sun-
Mizer works with modules
that have a maximum 250
W power rating and 44 V
DC voltage. Xandex says
the product is also compat-
ible with most 208 V and
240 V residential-sized in-
verters, and it conncects
to modules with series
wiring schemes. The 15
x 10 x 4 cm product will be
available in the US early next year, fol-
lowed by a release in Europe about three
months later through a Xandex sub-
Xandex Solar SunMizers can
be installed selectively, that
is only on modules that
generate less than
expected power.
sidiary based in
the Netherlands.
Xandex expects to
receive TUV and UL
certifications by the
end of the year. The
SunMizer is backed by a
20-year warranty that includes coverage
for replacement labor. mh
