Buzz Cuts:
Yes or Hot Mess?
Stars get edgy with shaved heads, but not all can hack the style

WIDE FOREHEAD
Halsey’s combed-to-the-front
pixie accentuated the width of
her forehead and made her face
seem longer for a gaunt look,
says hairstylist Mike Petrizzi, who
has worked with Mandy Moore
and Jena Malone. But her new
soft fuzz creates the illusion of
a rounder face. To copy the look,
ask your stylist for a number 1
clipper guard — this leaves about
one-eighth of an inch of hair.
TALL FOREHEAD
“Wavy, sideswept strands worked
for Cara Delevingne because they
optically widened her long face
and minimized her forehead,” says
Petrizzi. But the model’s close
shave draws attention to the
distance between her brows and
hairline, making her head look egglike.
Petrizzi’s tip: Ask your stylist
for a number 1 clipper guard on
the sides that fades to a number 2
on top to better frame the face.
ROUND FOREHEAD
After shaving off her long locks,
Amandla Stenberg posted a pic
of herself on Instagram, saying:
“I feel so aerodynamic now. I’ve
achieved ultimate speed.” And the
Everything, Everything star looks
gorgeous, too! “Her close-cropped
lets her beautiful face shine,” says
Petrizzi, who suggests asking your
to achieve a similar style.
