AWARD IN EDUCATION & TRAINING (AET) LEVEL 3<br />

No fee reduction available<br />

If you want to take the first steps in to teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector, then this is the course for you. You will be introduced to<br />

the foundations of teaching, learning and assessment covering areas such as teaching roles and responsibilities, planning for learning<br />

and assessment. This is a Level 3 course so you will be expected to have a good standard of written and verbal English: prior to enrolling<br />

you will undertake an assessment to confirm this. You will also be expected to have a good level of maths and ICT. This course is an ideal<br />

stepping stone if you would like to progress on to a full teaching qualification. Ideally, you will have a relevant vocational and/or academic<br />

qualification of at least the level above that of the learners you wish to teach and a minimum Level 3 qualification in your specialist area.<br />

This course leads to a professional qualification if you are already teaching in Further Education <strong>College</strong>s, Adult<br />

Education, Higher Education or a wide range of other training and educational settings outside the schools sector.<br />

Please note that the course does not confer Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) for those working or intending to work<br />

in schools. Upon successful completion of this course, it may be possible for people with QTLS to obtain work as a<br />

qualified teacher in schools by following a process of professional formation through the Society for Education and<br />

Training to gain Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status.<br />

Nationally, current trainees include people with a broad range of expertise gained in many sectors and all subject<br />

areas.<br />

On this course you will have the opportunity to develop the skills to play a full part in teaching and curriculum development. The course<br />

allows you to focus on your particular subject specialist area and a significant amount of your learning happens in your place of work -<br />

allowing you to put theory in to practice.<br />

You should normally be in paid employment, as a teacher or trainer, for a minimum of 100 hours (at least 50 hours in any one year) at a<br />

recognised training or educational establishment. Voluntary teaching/training may be acceptable in some circumstances. You are required to<br />

identify a work-based mentor who can support you with your subject specialism.<br />

There are 3 levels for this course depending on the level of qualifications that you currently have.<br />

CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION (CERT.ED.) IN-SERVICE LIFELONG LEARNING<br />

If you have a HNC, CGLI Advanced, the NVQ Level 3/4, or professional qualifications and significant work experience in the area you teach<br />

(where appropriate to the subject field). If you hold a basic teaching qualification (such as DTLLS <strong>Part</strong> One) or have substantial knowledge<br />

and experience of teaching you may be able to make a claim for accreditation of prior learning.<br />

PROFESSIONAL GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION (PGCE) IN-SERVICE LIFELONG LEARNING<br />

If you have a UK degree or equivalent.<br />

POST GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN EDUCATION (PGCE) IN-SERVICE LIFELONG LEARNING<br />

If you have a UK degree or equivalent, at a minimum of a 2:1.<br />

You will attend college on 11 or 12 Saturdays throughout the year:<br />

In <strong>2017</strong> the classes run on: 9th and 23rd September, 14th October, 11th November and 9th December<br />

In 20<strong>18</strong> the classes run on: 13th January, 3rd February, 3rd and 24th March, 21st April, (possibly 5th May) and 19th May<br />

There will also be one evening research visit in the first term to the library at the University of Huddersfield.<br />
