‘I have fond memories of studying Horticulture as an evening
class at Shipley College.
My tutor encouraged me to study the RHS General and RHS
Advanced Certificates (at the same time!) to ensure I trained
to the level best for me. His breadth of knowledge and
commitment over the modules delivered was inspiring.
I recall searching for part-time evening classes within a large
commutable area from Ilkley as I was working full-time.
There was little available back then and I feel fortunate
that Shipley College offered something which challenged
me. I particularly enjoyed the soil science and the practical
workshops in propagation in the glasshouses. It’s great
that the College continues to inspire Horticulture.’

‘I can honestly say that doing an Apprenticeship is the best thing
I have chosen to do.
Throughout my apprenticeship, my employer and tutors were very
supportive and helped me gain experience in the workplace and
complete the course. My line manager is just the best.
She always has time for me and I can talk to her about anything
I don’t understand. She welcomes new ideas and offers advice and
guidance to help put them in to place. The rest of the team I work
with are all approachable, friendly and help me to continue to learn
every day. I was really pleased when I was offered a permanent,
full-time position. I love my job, and am always excited to
come in to work and have not missed a day.’

Senior Business Manager, Stafforce Recruitment, Bradford
‘After my course I worked in a few different temporary
administration roles to build up my skills and experiences.
The recruitment agency that helped me find the roles
then saw my potential and offered me a job working for
them. Before long, I was a recruitment consultant and
then eventually worked my up through the company to be
Branch Manager. When the company was taken over in 2011
by Stafforce Recruitment, I became the Senior Business
Manager and was running the Bradford and Leeds Offices.
I am now responsible for meeting new clients and finding
new business to support their recruitment and training.
I enjoyed my time at Shipley College and feel that it gave
me a good understanding of business
and helped me start my career.’
