WHAT IS AN ADVANCED LEARNER LOAN?
If you are interested in a Level 3 or Level 4 course, but not sure if you can afford to pay the fees at this
time, you can apply for an Advanced Learner Loan to help you with the costs. They are for anyone aged
19 and over to help fund the tuition fees to study qualifications at Level 3 or 4. Repayments on the
loan don’t start until you have completed the course and are earning more than £21,000 a year.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR AN ADVANCED LEARNER LOAN?
The College will provide you with a Learning and Funding Information letter. You will need this letter
to make a loan application by visiting the website www.gov.uk/advanced-learner-loan to either apply
online or download and post an application form.
USEFUL TO KNOW:
• If you’re unsure about taking out a loan and want to seek advice then you should contact the
Money Advice Service, established by the UK government, who can offer free, impartial advice by
visiting their website at www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk
• If you have been granted a full or partial Advanced Learner Loan for a Level 3 or Level 4 course and
you leave before the end date of the course, you will be liable to pay the college for the balance of
course fees not covered by your loan.

The College’s policy is not to waive course fees, except in exceptional circumstances, when a student
withdraws after the start of their course.

ENROL ON A COURSE
You will need to fill in an enrolment form.
To get an enrolment form you can download it at www.shipley.ac.uk/adult-learners, call us on
01274 327327, or email us at enrolments@shipley.ac.uk to have one sent to you, or come in person.
BY PHONE
Please ring 01274 327327 if you wish to enrol and pay by debit or credit card or to apply for a course
which requires a short, informal discussion.
IN PERSON
Call in during office hours. The Enrolments Office is located in the Salt Building, Victoria Road, Saltaire,
BD18 3LQ.
Please note, you will need to come in to College if you are paying the course fees in cash or with
evidence of your benefits if you are claiming a fee reduction.

*The Enrolments office will also be open until 6:30pm Monday to Thursday during the weeks commencing: 29th August, 4th, 11th
& 18th & 25th September 2017.
Remember, you can also enrol over the summer during the normal opening times. Please be aware
that the College has Quality Improvement (QI) days where staff will be involved in training therefore,
our Enrolments office may be closed for part of these days. For full up-to-date listings of our term
