Brookfi eld Knights bring more live music to the Performing Arts Centre with internationally renowned roots music from Chris Stout & Catriona McKay’s Shetland-inspired sound on Wednesday 7th June. On Thursday 1st June, Kilbarchan’s favourite son, Rev Ian Miller, returns for “An Evening With” event. Everyone who has had the pleasure of his company will know that Ian is a hugely entertaining raconteur with an Aladdin’s Cave of anecdotes and jokes. A special Lilias Day-inspired quiz takes place at The Trust the following evening, Friday 2nd June whilst on Lilias Day itself Habbies will host a family fun day with a bouncy castle and BBQ. On the evening of Lilias Day Barchan Mad Comedy present another of their ever-popular comedy nights at Kilbarchan Performing Arts Centre. On Sunday 11th June Village Voices & Kilbarchan Parish Junior Choir will present theirSummer Concert at Kilbarchan Parish Church. The festival climaxes with “Habbies Hoolie” family ceilidh at the Kilbarchan Performing Arts Centre on Saturday 17th June. One of Renfrewshire;s best-loved ceilidh bands, Clamjamfrie will once again serve up a rousing evening of music and dancing on the evening of the Kilbarchan Show. We have an exciting line-up of entertainment including one of our biggest parades yet with 13 fl oats taking part this year, a battle re-enactment, a tug of war tournament, circus skills workshops, trampolines, archery, a medieval camp, music tent and the return of Radio Clyde’s George Bowie as guest compere. We also have our grand prize Lilias Day raffl e where one lucky will winner will leave the park £1,000 richer. The raffl e is drawn at 4.30pm on the day and tickets can be bought at the Lilias Day committee stall in the park. Each year we ask local artists to submit a design or art work to become the Lilias Day design for the year. This years art work, ‘Parade Around’ is by Kilbarchan artist Tracy Kyle and captures the true spirit of Lilias Day. Tracy said “In my painting I wanted to include aspects of the whole of Lilias Day including the historic parade, the events that take place in the park and of course the Steeple where Habbie Simpson resides. All encompassed by the traditional bunting”. Prints can be bought at the Lilias Day merchandise stall. As ever we are delighted with the support from the community and local organisations. Chair, Graeme Stockton adds “this year we have over 40 stalls and 13 fl oats taking part, not to mention three pipe bands, and the biggest historic parade in many years and a fantastic food village. Thanks to the support of the village and all who take part in the event, tens of thousands of pounds are raised for charities and good causes. Entry to the Fete is £2 (children of primary school age and under are free). Our theme this year is “A night at the Movies” and the afternoon will kick off with a fancy dress competition which is open to all. A prize will be given to the best costume in each category - pre-school, primary school, senior school and up. Stallholders will also have the opportunity to win a prize for the best decorated stall. As well as a variety of food & craft stalls, there will be loads to do for all ages including: Tug-of-war Tea Room Beat the Goalie Licenced Bar Bouncy Castle Photo Booth Children’s activities Circus Skills Face painting Ice Cream Van Pony Rides Paisley 2021 Culture Bus ….plus we have a packed programme of entertainment including Johnstone Juvenile Pipe Band, Elizabeth Rose Addison School of Dance, Splash Productions and our DJ. And after all that, if you still have the energy, there is a Karaoke Disco in The Railway Inn at 7.30pm. New for this year is the baking and home craft competition. Find out how to sign up for your tea party visit ssafa.org.uk/bigbrewup kilbarchan - howwood - lochwinnoch - elderslie Following a very hard fought local election campaign I am delighted to have been re-elected as an Independent Councillor for the new ward of Johnstone North, Kilbarchan, Howwood, and Lochwinnoch, and for the fi rst time, to represent the people of Howwood. I would like to thank all those who voted for me and put their faith in me. In a spirit of humble service I dedicate myself to serving the people of Howwood, as well as the rest of the ward, and to continue to fi ght for the interests of the village without fear or favour. As one of only two Independent Cllrs in the whole of Renfrewshire it was quite a remarkable achievement to triumph against the established party political machines, and I was also very pleased to receive a message of congratulations from the former Independent MSP, Dennis Canavan, who was my MP for twenty years. I would also like to pay tribute to the work of my former civic colleague, Chris Gilmour, who sadly was not re-elected but who was a diligent and very conscientious ward Councillor for Lochwinnoch and Kilbarchan. I have already attended my fi rst meeting of Howwood Community Council, and took up issues relating to the use of the public park, parking in Kilnknowe Cottages, and prospective planning matters. My advice surgeries as follows: Howwood - 4th Wednesday of the month in the Howwood Village Hall at 6.30pm, Kilbarchan - 2nd Wednesday of the month in the Steeple Hall at 7.30pm, and Lochwinnoch - 4th Wednesday of the month in the McKillop at 7.30pm, all excluding July and Christmas. Join us at The Bowfi eld as they host their fi fth annual 10K race in aid of St Vincent’s Hospice and in memory of Grace Kissell. Walkers and runners are welcome to tackle our challenging and scenic course. Walkers start at 10am and runners at 11am. Unfortunately, just before the election, a close family member died and I was away the week of the election.
