The Old Course Ranfurly Golf Club
Beginners Coaching
We have had an extremely successful start to
our batch of lessons for adults who are looking
to take up golf and aren’t sure where to begin.
Suzanne Smith has led up the ladies coaching
which has been attended by almost 50 golfers
in the fi rst two weeks. Danny Dyer takes lead
of the male lessons and he has seen just over 20 come along and take part
in his. The lessons so far have consisted mostly of short game chipping and
putting drills, with some work on mid-iron shots. These lessons are an easy
way to get to grips with the basics of golf in
a care free environment- there’s no pressure
whatsoever. If you would like to get involved,
please make contact with Suzanne or Danny
directly, via our Secretary Martyn or through
our social media outlets, facebook and twitter.
Doubles Trouble
Congratulations to Stewart Watt and Martin Clark who won the Fraser Innes
trophy beating Andy Watson and James Sticker 2&1 in a keenly contested
fi nal. Beaten fi nalist last year, they’ve gone one better this year- well played
guys!
Revenge is a dish best served cold!-Congratulations to Andy Watson and
James Stickler who won the winter league doubles final beating Donald
Laurie and Martin Clark after the 2nd play-off hole. Neither team could be
separated over 2 rounds of excellent golf. Despite being 4 down after 5,
Donald and Martin got it back to all square through 11. After halving the
1st sudden death hole and with fading light it was fitting that Andy holed a
20 foot birdie putt on the 38th hole to secure the victory. Well done to both
teams getting that far and again congratulations to Andy and James who
are deserved champions.
Scottish Tour Winner
Congratulations to our very own Aidan O’Hagan who
produced some great golf over two days at Turnhouse
Golf Club winning Scottish Junior Tour Under 14s with
scores of 73, 71. By all accounts the course was playing
tough with difficult conditions. Another great win for your
development, well done!
Heartstart
The club are delighted to confirm that thanks to a
donation from Heartstart Scotland, we now have our very own defi brillator.
Two training sessions were held for members to become trained on the
equipment. The defib is held within the main clubhouse and is easily
accessible for members and local neighbours- hopefully we never need
to use it.
Annodata Championship
The gent’s team were competing in the Annodata Championship at home
against Clober Golf Club and progressed to the next round after a close win.
The competition involves 5 singles matches being played with full handicap
difference being applied. The Old Course team consisted of Martin Clark,
Don Laurie, John Degnan, Kevin Thomson
and Stewart Watt.
With the match tied at 2.5 each it was Kevin’s
duty to play the 19th and he managed to win
the hole and take us through to the next round
- well played guys!
Time To Make The Move To Kilmacolm Golf Club
With the Summer just around the corner, many of us start to think about
getting outdoors and enjoying our leisure time participating in sport.
Golf is one of our country’s most popular sports and has many benefits
including fi tness, competition and socialising. Kilmacolm Golf Club is
keen to welcome golfers whether they be new to the sport, wanting
to move club or returning to golf after time away. With special offers
aimed at all categories of membership, there should be something to
suit everyone!
Club General Manager, David Muir, told us, “This really is an exciting
time to get into golf. Over the past few years there has been a real need
for Golf Clubs to offer suitable membership packages that meet people’s
needs and that’s exactly what we have done here at Kilmacolm Golf Club.
We have our ‘Intro To Golf’ membership which gives members access to
our incredible practice facilities and support from our PGA Professional,
Iain Nicholson. It’s a great way to get into the sport or is also a perfect
membership if you want to practise on a full driving range. In addition
to this, for the remainder of 2017, to be a full member of our Club it will
cost just £520. This even includes £50 to spend on food and drink in our
outstanding Clubhouse. It truly is a fantastic price for one of the top 100
golf courses in Scotland. A free Junior membership for under 14’s will be
offered to everyone who takes out a full membership too. For anyone
thinking of joining us in 2018, please get in touch now as we are able to
offer an attractive package in advance. Our offers run for the month of
June so if you are interested, just get in touch with me at the Club and we
can arrange for you to have a tour of our facilities.”
With the long summer evenings ahead, perhaps now is the time to make
the move to Kilmacolm Golf Club!
