Ranfurly Castle Golf Club
On Thursday 5th April the Ladies
section at Ranfurly Castle Golf
Club teamed up with ‘Looking
Good For Golf’ and held a very
successful fashion show. This
showcased the outfits available
from the Pro shop run by Tom
Eckford and his wife Sarah. Over
100 ladies from many local clubs
enjoyed a fun evening, with the
golf clothes being modelled by
various lady members and friends. A glass of
wine and some delicious nibbles were included
and this added to the party atmosphere.
All items can be viewed on the website: -
loookinggoodforgolf.co.uk and can be bought
from the Pro Shop, so if you were unable to
attend you don’t need to feel left out.
The Winter Greensomes took place on 29th
March and this resulted in the first silverware
of the season being won by Vivien Howe and
Gillian Donaghy with 41 Stableford points.
Samantha Parker,
St Fillans Primary
Samantha Parker (10), a pupil of St Fillans
Primary school in Houston, is already having
great success at her Highland dancing
competitions this year!
On the 19th March Samantha attended the
SDTA championships held in the Lagoon
Leisure Centre Paisley as a 9 year old and
achieved her fi rst ever Open Championship line
up coming 6th in the group. Then on the 2nd
April she travelled up to Inverness to take part in
the European 10 years pre-champs where she won the national section.
The next trip North was to the Aberdeen city Championships where she
won her 10 years highland pre-champs which was a huge achievement in a
group of over 20 very good strong dancers! Samantha is now training hard
along with her fellow dance students at the Maryann McCreadie school
of dance in preparation for the World Highland Dance Championships at
Cowal Highland Gathering which is held in Dunoon at the end of August
every year! Samantha knows competition will be very tough with near 40
other competitors expected in her group from all
over the world. But dancing isn’t just about the
winning and medals, she has gained excellent
fi nesse, has learned about winning and losing,
and most importantly she has friends all over
Scotland whom all support each other. I
couldn’t be prouder of what Sam has achieved
already this year, and all I ever ask of her to do
is dance her best.
Samantha started dancing at 3 years old when
we lived up in Aboyne, Aberdeenshire, she’s
never stopped dancing since! Samantha’s
ambition is to one year win a championship,
and to attend the International Championships
which are held in N.S.W Australia!
Perfect Pedalling for
Pedal the Park 2017
Allan McGibbon member of Ayr Road CC
at Castle Semple Start (oldest Rider,
from Prestwick)
On Sunday 23rd April perfect
weather conditions prevailed
for nearly 300 cyclists to pedal
a challenging 100km (64miles)
route around Clyde Muirshiel
Regional Park raising funds for
CLIC Sargent in Scotland.
As the photographs show the day
started cold but calm, the wind
did pick up making it harder work
with not many tail winds however the sun did come out and the rolling hills
and coastal landscapes were simply stunning.
The event started and finished
at Castle Semple Visitor Centre
where all participants received
goodie bags and a Pedal the
Park medal for their efforts from
Rachael Mclean, CLIC Sargent
Fundraising Manager – West of
Scotland.
Rachael said “it was an absolutely
pleasure cheering everyone over
the finish line and giving out the medals, it was great to meet everyone and
amazing to hear all the positive feedback from all the riders! Thank you
to everyone for supporting our work with young cancer patients. We rely
entirely on donations to provide our vital services that help stop cancer
destroying young lives, and we couldn’t do it without you”
The event was organised by
Ride 63 Community Cycling
Club in partnership with the
Clyde Muirshiel Regional
Park, participants were very
complementary of their efforts
with lots of 5 star comments such
as:
First riders to complete the route (L) Stuart Carmichael from Fairlie
member of Inverclyde Velo, (M) Andrew Prenelle from Kilbarchan, (R)
Paul McGonigle from Largs member of Inverclyde Velo
“The Sportive was an excellent
well organised event and I
thoroughly enjoyed it. Some great
scenery with the added bonus of good weather on the day. Will recommend
it to our group to come along next year. Well done. Great effort!”
“Cracking route - Cracking scenery - Sore climbs - Brilliant descents - Great
vibe - Think I saw a Golden Eagle on the climb up to the Greenock Cut as
well”
“Great event, route was tough but
the views made it! Thank you to
all the volunteers!!”
When doing a Sportive it’s the
taking part that is important as it
is not a race. Having said that the
fasted folk to complete Pedal the
Park 2017 did so in about three
and a half hours, plenty more folk
completed the route within four to
six hours.
Climbing over Fairle Moor with fantastic
views, North Ayrshire
George Sword (from
Airdrie) completes
the Fairlie climb on
a recumbent bike –
impressive!
The well organised friendly event attracted participants from all over Central
Scotland as well as Aberdeenshire and Essex, with the events growing
positive reputation the date is already set for Sun 22 April 2018.
