gave the vote of thanks
to a packed Games Hall
parents and carers, with pupils also providing wonderful music to add to
the evening. Thank you to EVERYONE involved in the preparation and
organisation leading to a most enjoyable event........with a special thanks to
Mrs Willbond and the office staff. It was indeed a night of Caring, Learning
and Achieving.
Nursery Disco
The pupils, parents and staff had an amazing night out at Houston Bowling
Club, raising funds to purchase new equipment for the Creative Area. They
danced the night away and played traditional party games. A fun evening
was had by all.
Pet Assembly
The pupils had a vote to bring in their pet in for assembly. We had a tortoise,
dwarf rabbits, a ferret and an Australian labradoodle. All the pets behaved
beautifully. Their owners shared lots of interesting facts and answered
questions from the audience.
This year we plan to have our Sports Day on Thursday 1st June at Houston
for us.
Eco News - Tag and Track
Next session we are going to
be working in partnership with
Clyde Muirshiel on their Tag and
Track programme. This involves
us tagging our very own seagull,
giving it a name and tracking
where it flies to. We are going to
raise funds this term to purchase
a special bird tracker to enable
us to take part in this amazing
project.
Digital Day
The whole school took part in our Vertical Learning Digital Day. The
children learned how to take a good photograph from local photographer,
Barry Hedges.
St Fillan’s Primary School
Whitelee Windfarm trip for S1 Pupils
24 S1 pupils had a great day out to Whitelees
Windfarm.
With blue skies and sunshine, they were able
to marvel at the 215 Wind Turbines on the vast
site.
They went into the labs in the Visitor Centre to
learn about the best shape and ‘pitch’ for their
Wind Turbines blades and were then able to
make a model turbine to test their theories.
After the workshop, they enjoyed a most
informative tour of the Windfarm.
They were able to stop right under one of
the turbines. As well as the turbines, Scottish
Power is very proud of the wildlife that they take
care to preserve on the moor.
The pupils heard many stories of the diverse
range of animals found at Whitelees.
The day certainly gave them a better awareness
of the importance of Renewable Energy.
The Primary 7 children in St Fillan’s had a great time away
at Lochgoilhead on their residential trip. They took part
in kayaking, sailing, climbing and other challenging and
exciting activities. The first and perhaps one of the more
challenging things they had to do was to make up their
own beds! With a bit of team work they did overcome this
obstacle and went on to have a fantastic experience.
Our whole school are looking forward to visiting Paisley
Museum for their Star Wars exhibition. Each class will
take part in a Star Wars themed science workshop.
Some of our older children entered the Gryffe Rotary
Young writers competition and Chloe, Orla and Holly
did very well winning £40 in total between them. The whole
school are making the most of the recent good weather to
practice for Sports Day.
