IMAM ABU AL-FIDA' ISMAiL IBN KATHFR 179
My own comment is, as was stated before from al-Bukh?iriui's account, through
al-Zuhri, from Wrwa, that he stayed there for some 10 nights.
Mi%% b. Wqba quoted Mujma' b. Yazid b. Hzritha as saying, "The
Messenger of God (SAAS) stayed among us" - amongst the Banii 'Amr b. 'Awf
at Quba', that is - "for 22 nights."
Al-W~qidi stated, "It is said he stayed among them for 14 nights."
Ibn Ishaq stated, "When Friday came the Messenger of God (SAAS) was there
among the Bann Sdim b.'Awf; he prayed that day in the mosque in the hniina'
valley, this being the first Friday he prayed in Medina.
"'Itban b. Malik and 'Ahbas b.'Ubada b. Nadla came to hi there along with
some men of the Banii Salim and told him, '0 Messenger of God, stay here
among us enjoying our protection and our wealth.' He replied, referring to his
camel, 'Give her free passage; for she is being guided.' And they cleared a path
for her.
"She proceeded and got as far as the homes of the B m Bayada, where he was
met by Ziyad b. Labid and Farwa b. 'Amr, along with other men of the Bana
Bayada. They asked hi, '0 Messenger of God, come and join us and share our
protection and our wealth.'
"He replied, 'Make way before her, she has received a command.' And they
cleared a path for her.
"She went on again and passed by the homes of the Bana Sacida where she was
blocked by Sa'd b. Wbada and al-Mundhir b. 'Amr along with some men of the
Banti Sacida. They said, '0 Messenger of God, come to us and have our protection.'
'Make way before her,' he replied, 'she has received a command.' And they
did so.
"On she went until she was opposite the home of Banii al-Hzrith b.
al-Khazraj. There her way was blocked by Sa'd b. al-Rabi: Kharija b. Zayd and
'Abd Allxh b. Raw*a, along with men of Bann al-Hiwith b. al-Khazraj. They
called out, 'Messenger of God, come to us; we have many to protect you.' But he
replied as before.
"She proceeded further, as far as the homes of the Bann 'Adi b. al-Najjzr, to
whom he was related. The closest of these was the mother of 'Abd al-Mumlib,
Salma, daughter of 'Amr, being one of their women. There were Salif b. Qays
and Aha Salit, Usayra b. Abti Kharija and some men of the Banii 'Adi b.
al-Najjar. They told hi, '0 Messenger of God, join your own relatives and
enjoy our wealth and protection.' 'Make way before her,' he replied, 'she has
received a command.' And they did so.
"She went further, up to the homes of the Ban6 Mdik b. al-Najjzr, where she
knelt down before what is today his mosque. At that time it was a drying shed
for dates owned by two orphan youths of the Banti Malik b. al-Najjar, Sahl and
Suhayl by name, sons of 'Amr. They were under the protection of Musdh b.
'Afra'."
