STUDY OF HISTORY<br />
this is the will <strong>of</strong> God. In fact, this is also the<br />
import <strong>of</strong> the Qur'&nic verse :<br />
[<br />
He exalts whomsoever He likes and He degrades<br />
and disgraces whomsoever He likes.’']<br />
Here one or two matters deserve consideration.<br />
Is there a separate will for every single<br />
event <strong>of</strong> history or is there only one will<br />
which<br />
governs each and every event in history ? Because<br />
we are monotheists and we believe only in<br />
one God, therefore, we believe that there is only<br />
one will which governs all the events <strong>of</strong> history.<br />
On the other hand, if we believed in many gods<br />
and if we had taken to polytheism, we would<br />
have thought that the events occurring in the<br />
universe were governed by separate wills. Then<br />
it is our firm belief that all the events in the<br />
universe are interconnected and they represent<br />
unity and harmony so that one law <strong>of</strong> God runs<br />
through all <strong>of</strong> them as the blood runs through<br />
the body. There is only one will <strong>of</strong> God which<br />
reflected in every event aud, behind it, there<br />
only one law which regulates it.<br />
It can, <strong>of</strong> course, happen that, if God wi *<br />

sor to prosper and flourish, because He has powe<br />
