Ihn Ishaq stated that Quvayy had four sons and two daughters, <strong>the</strong> sons being<br />

'Ahd Manaf, 'Ahd al-Dar, 'Ahd d-Wzza, and 'Ahd, <strong>the</strong> daughters Takhmur and<br />

Barra. <strong>The</strong> mo<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> all <strong>the</strong>se was Hubba, daughter <strong>of</strong> Hulayl h. Huhshiyya h.<br />

Salal h. Ka'b h. 'Amr, al-Khuzaci. It was from Hulayl that Qu~ayy b. Kilah took<br />

control over <strong>the</strong> Sacred House.<br />

According to <strong>Ibn</strong> Hisbiim, 'Ahd Manaf b. Qusayy had four sons, Hnshim,<br />

'Abd Shams, and al-Mucralih, <strong>the</strong>ir mo<strong>the</strong>r being 'Atika daughter <strong>of</strong> Murra h.<br />

Hild. Ano<strong>the</strong>r son <strong>of</strong> his was Nawfd b. 'Ahd Maniif, his mo<strong>the</strong>r being Waqida,<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> 'Am al-Muiniyya.<br />

<strong>Ibn</strong> Hishm stated as well that 'Ahd Maniifalso fa<strong>the</strong>red Aha 'Am, Tumadir,<br />

Qulaha, Hayya, Rayta, Umm al-Akhtham, and Umm Sufym.<br />

Also according to Ihn Hishm, Hashim h. 'Ahd Manghad four (src) sons and<br />

five daughters. <strong>The</strong> sons were named 'Ahd al-Mucmlih, Asad, and Abii Sayfi;<br />

<strong>the</strong> daughters were Nadla, al-Shaffal, Khalida, Dacifa, Ruqayya, and Hayya.<br />

<strong>The</strong> mo<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> 'Abd al-Munalih and Ruqayya was Salma, daughter <strong>of</strong> 'Amr b.<br />

Zayd h. Lahid h. Khidah b. 'Amir b. Ghanm b. 'Adi b. al-Najjar from Medina.<br />

<strong>Ibn</strong> Hish- also gave <strong>the</strong> names <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> mo<strong>the</strong>rs <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> remaining children.<br />

He stated that 'Ahd al-Mundih had ten sons and six daughters. <strong>The</strong> sons<br />

were al-'Ahhas, Hamza, 'Ahd Allah, Aha Talih (whose name was 'Ahd Manaf<br />

and not 'Urnran), al-Zubayr, al-Haith, who was <strong>the</strong> first-horn <strong>of</strong> his fa<strong>the</strong>r who<br />

was <strong>the</strong>refore accorded his name, Jahl (whom some name as Hajl), who was<br />

nicknamed al-Ghaydaq, "<strong>the</strong> liberal", for his generosity, al-Muqawwim, Du*,<br />

and Aha Lahah (whose name was 'Abd al-Wzza). His daughters' names were<br />

Safiyya, Umm Hakim al-Baydal, 'Atika, Umayma, CArwa, and Barra. And Ihn<br />

Hishitm also gave <strong>the</strong> names <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir mo<strong>the</strong>rs. He stated that <strong>the</strong> mo<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong> 'Ahd<br />

Allah, Aha Tdih, al-Zubayr and all <strong>the</strong> girls except Safiyya was FaGma, daughter<br />

<strong>of</strong> 'Amr h. 'A'idh h. Wmrm h. Makhzam b. Yaqza b. Murra h. Ka'b h. Lu'ayy<br />

b. Ghdih h. Fihr h. Mdik h. al-Na& h. Kinana h. Khuzayma h. Mudrika h.<br />

Ilyas h. Mudar h. Niza h. Ma'ad h. 'Adnm.<br />

He said fur<strong>the</strong>r that 'Ahd Allah fa<strong>the</strong>red <strong>Muhammad</strong>, <strong>the</strong> Messenger <strong>of</strong> God<br />

(SAAS), <strong>the</strong> lord <strong>of</strong> all Adam's children. His mo<strong>the</strong>r was Amina daughter <strong>of</strong><br />

Wahh b. CAhd Manaf b. Zuhra h. Kilah b. Murra h. Ka'b b. Lu'ayy. He <strong>the</strong>n<br />

gave mention <strong>of</strong> all her maternal forebears.<br />

Ihn Hisham concluded that <strong>the</strong> <strong>Prophet</strong> (SAAS) was <strong>the</strong> most noble <strong>of</strong><br />

Adam's children in worthiness and descent from both his fa<strong>the</strong>r and his mo<strong>the</strong>r.<br />

Previously recounted is <strong>the</strong> following statement <strong>of</strong> al-Awzaci on <strong>the</strong> authority<br />

<strong>of</strong> Shaddad Aba 'Amms from Wathila h. al-Asqac: 'L<strong>The</strong> Messenger <strong>of</strong> God<br />

(SAAS) said, 'God chose Kinma from Ishmael's progeny and Q?lraysh from<br />

Kinana, Hahim from Quraysh, and myself from Hahim.'" Muslim recounted<br />

this tradition.
