要 完 成 如 此 複 雜 和 嚴 峻 的 挑 戰 , 豐 富 的 經 驗 和 紮 實
的 專 業 知 識 基 礎 是 不 可 或 缺 的 。「 室 內 設 計 師 的 專 業 能
力 必 須 非 常 強 。 裝 飾 只 是 我 們 工 作 的 一 部 份 , 就 像 是 一
層 糖 衣 , 但 要 想 完 成 一 個 出 色 的 項 目 , 很 多 基 礎 工 作 也
非 常 重 要 。 這 也 是 我 支 持 室 內 設 計 師 要 參 加 註 冊 考 試 ,
人 們 應 該 找 通 過 了 註 冊 考 試 的 設 計 師 來 合 作 的 原 因 。」
Robert 建 議 想 從 事 室 內 設 計 工 作 的 人 都 應 該 去 參 加
國 家 室 內 設 計 師 委 員 會 資 格 考 試 (National Council for
Interior Design Qualification examination)。 不 過 ,Robert
自 己 的 職 業 生 涯 並 不 是 以 資 格 考 試 開 始 的 , 他 很 幸 運 地
從 開 始 便 進 入 了 Architectura, 一 間 規 模 很 大 的 建 築 公 司
任 職 , 在 那 期 間 學 到 很 多 專 業 嚴 謹 的 職 業 經 驗 和 工 作 態
度 。 他 回 憶 說 :「 公 司 的 工 程 文 檔 非 常 健 全 , 圖 紙 繪 製
得 非 常 精 細 , 精 確 和 不 遺 漏 任 何 事 項 是 非 常 重 要 的 。」
如 今 ,Robert 和 他 的 公 司 為 世 界 各 地 的 客 戶 們 構 建
著 從 住 宅 到 酒 店 等 各 式 各 樣 的 室 內 設 計 項 目 , 無 論 面 對
怎 樣 的 挑 戰 , 他 和 他 的 團 隊 都 可 以 做 到 胸 有 成 竹 、 從 容

活 中 的 享 受 。」Robert 微 笑 著 說 :「 我 覺 得 作 為 設 計 師 最
有 吸 引 力 的 事 情 就 是 你 可 以 收 到 各 種 觀 點 , 然 後 匯 集 融
合 它 們 。 你 可 以 從 中 不 斷 學 習 , 與 秉 持 不 同 想 法 的 人 合
作 , 並 把 這 些 有 才 華 的 人 集 合 起 來 。」
In the first part of his career, Bailey worked for a
big architectural firm, Architectura, and learned the
importance of hyper-detailed documentation, a level
of perfectionism that has set his design firm apart
from others.
“We really produce good documents to build by. We’re
very detailed in our drawings, being very important in
precision and not leaving anything out,” he says.
That extra effort is just one example of how Bailey’s
firm consistently goes the extra mile for his clients, a
work ethic and standard essential today as he works
with clients around the world in different time zones
and needs to be available any time, day and night. But
the challenges and difficulties provide an even sweeter
taste of success.
“It’s not a job, it’s a pursuit — it’s something you
have to enjoy every day,” Bailey says. “I think the most
interesting thing about being a designer is just seeing
other people’s viewpoints and collaborating with
them, learning from them, working with lots of people
collaboratively in different disciplines, and bringing all
those people together.”
