張 進 建 議 新 移 民 要 克 服 心 理 落 差 , 從 零 開 始
適 應 新 環 境 。
When Zhang began practicing meditation
and living by the principles of truthfulness,
compassion and forbearance, his career also
took a positive turn.
就 在 張 進 越 來 越 適 應 加 拿 大 新 的 工 作 和 生 活 , 事 業 也
發 展 得 順 風 順 水 之 際 , 他 的 太 太 卻 突 然 病 倒 了 。「 她 在 中 國
時 發 生 過 一 次 意 外 , 留 下 了 輕 度 腦 震 盪 的 病 根 , 只 要 換 個 環
境 或 是 受 到 外 界 一 些 刺 激 , 就 會 出 現 很 強 烈 的 頭 痛 、 失 眠 、
嘔 吐 等 反 應 。」 那 一 次 , 張 進 的 太 太 病 痛 格 外 嚴 重 , 在 被 疾
病 折 磨 得 苦 不 堪 言 之 際 , 她 突 然 冒 出 了 一 句 話 :「 我 想 煉 法
輪 功 。」 這 讓 張 進 不 禁 大 吃 了 一 驚 。
新 的 人 生 方 向
原 來 早 在 中 國 的 時 候 , 夫 婦 二 人 便 在 周 圍 朋 友 和 同
事 的 介 紹 下 , 聽 說 過 法 輪 功 , 知 道 這 是 一 門 佛 家 功 法 , 對
人 的 身 心 健 康 很 有 好 處 。 久 病 不 癒 的 張 進 太 太 , 在 實 在 無
計 可 施 的 情 況 下 , 突 然 想 起 了 這 根 救 命 稻 草 。 想 到 他 們 已
身 在 國 外 , 不 必 擔 心 中 國
大 陸 對 法 輪 功 的 鎮 壓 和 迫
害 , 張 進 抱 著 試 試 看 的 想
法 上 網 查 詢 了 一 下 , 結 果
聯 繫 上 卡 爾 加 里 一 位 修 煉
法 輪 功 的 西 人 學 員 , 對 方
在 接 到 張 進 的 電 話 後 , 很
快 把 書 籍 、 光 盤 等 修 煉 法
輪 功 需 要 的 資 料 送 到 了 他
們 家 中 。
從 那 時 起 , 每 天 煉
功 、 閱 讀 《 轉 法 輪 》 成 為 了 夫 婦 二 人 生 活 的 一 部 份 。 最 先
感 受 到 明 顯 變 化 的 是 張 進 的 太 太 , 她 修 煉 法 輪 功 不 久 , 腦
震 盪 的 症 狀 便 消 失 了 , 這 讓 一 家 人 都 欣 喜 不 已 。「 修 煉 法
輪 功 之 後 , 他 的 功 法 和 法 理 就 很 自 然 地 融 入 進 了 我 的 生
活 。《 轉 法 輪 》 裏 說 , 我 們 應 該 按 照 真 、 善 、 忍 的 標 準 去
做 好 人 , 這 讓 我 遇 事 更 加 容 易 想 得 開 、 放 得 下 。」
2011 年 , 卡 爾 加 里 區 域 銀 行 的 一 位 副 總 裁 告 訴 張 進 ,
會 說 中 文 的 他 如 果 去 多 倫 多 應 該 有 更 好 的 發 展 , 並 為 他 寫 了
一 封 推 薦 信 。 沒 有 太 多 猶 豫 , 素 來 勇 於 接 受 挑 戰 的 張 進 帶 著

多 分 行 的 私 人 銀 行 家 。 想 到 多 倫 多 華 人 市 場 潛 力 巨 大 , 在 金
融 行 業 已 經 積 累 了 七 年 的 經 驗 的 張 進 非 常 自 信 , 憑 藉 自 己 的
專 業 知 識 、 語 言 能 力 和 對 中 國 文 化 的 瞭 解 , 必 將 可 以 在 新 工
作 中 闖 出 一 番 天 地 。 可 就 在 這 時 , 經 理 的 一 句 話 就 像 是 當 頭
給 他 潑 了 一 盆 冷 水 。
「 他 們 告 知 我 不 要 去 接 觸 華 人 市 場 , 因 為 已 經 有 會 中
文 的 業 務 人 員 在 做 了 。」 原 本 以 為 將 他 調 至 多 倫 多 , 就 是 為
“For new immigrants to have a breakthrough in language,
one of the most important points is to not be afraid of
making mistakes. When I started to work in the bank, I
don’t want to mention how embarrassed I was,” Zhang says
with a laugh. “I remember one customer who needed a loan.
He told me that he had a four-plex property. But I didn’t
know what plex meant, so I had to ask him what he meant.”
Although Zhang’s English quickly improved the longer
he worked in the bank, he realized that adjusting to
Western society wasn’t as simple as just understanding
English. One time, Zhang asked a customer where he
had immigrated from, which offended the customer,
who accused Zhang of discrimination. Zhang’s manager
suggested next time he
simply ask what other
languages a client speaks
other than English.
“There are certain social
skills and etiquette in
every culture,” Zhang
says. “It reflects a person’s
self-restraint and quality.
It even decides whether
people want to be friends
with you, and whether they want to cooperate with you.
Some new immigrants think that they can’t integrate into
mainstream society here, but it’s probably because they do
not make an effort on these kinds of details.”
As Zhang experienced more and more success at
work, his wife suddenly fell ill. In China, she had once
had a concussion, and the change in environment was
aggravating her previous injury, causing unbearable
headaches, insomnia, and vomiting.
Tortured by her sickness, she told her husband, “I want
to practice Falun Gong.” This shocked Zhang. Back in
China, the couple had heard about Falun Gong, an ancient
qigong meditation practice that was hugely popular in
the ’90s, but in 1999, the communist regime launched a
massive persecution against its practitioners. They knew
that it was a self-cultivation practice and could be quite
beneficial to both physical and mental health. Since they
