REDD+ credits. The Darien region is
one of the places with most biodiversity
in the world. This project is developed by
Community Council COCOMASUR
and the company Anthrotect.
These objectives are achieved by
obtaining international standard seals
such as the Verified Carbon Standard
(VCS) governing voluntary carbon
markets, and the Climate, Community
and Biodiversity Standard (CCBS) that
guarantees relevant benefits for climate
protection, community development and
biodiversity preservation.
The social management of assets includes
a contribution to climate change
mitigation: activities were undertaken
in 26 municipalities in 16 departments
(Quindío, Atlántico, Santander, Valle,
Bolivar, Norte de Santander, Tolima,
Cauca, Caldas, Antioquia, Cordoba,
Huila, Nariño, Magdalena, Sucre and
Boyacá) in partnership with two entities.
THE VENTURES
COMPETITION
INTERCOLOMBIA is cooperating
with the Ventures Corporation to
maintain an inter-platform facility
with ample capacity to promote and
enhance benefits and contribute to the
social, environmental and economic
sustainability of the environment where
ISA operates. INTERCOLOMBIA has
identified aspects, which should prevent,
mitigate, monitor and compensate for
impacts.
In addition, ISA’s response to climate
change goes beyond our business
activities. Since 2011 ISA and now the
new subsidiary INTERCOLOMBIA,
have promoted a Special Award under
the Ventures Competition to encourage
entrepreneurs committed to efficiency
energy. We hope that this platform will
allow us to find innovative solutions
to the effects of climate change on our
processes of construction, operation and
maintenance.
PROTECTION OF
ECOSYSTEMS
The construction of transmission lines
involves an environmental impact due to
the removal of vegetation on both sides
of the line. The company makes sure that
the area remains clear to prevent any
outage or damage to the line.
To minimise impact during construction,
routes with less environmental sensitivity
are identified, and licensed after proper
study of the environmental impact.
Forestry compensation programmes
mitigate the effects where it is impossible
to avoid the removal of vegetation.
THE SEARCH FOR
EFFICIENCY
ISA has implemented initiatives to
identify the contributions to sustainability
in terms of savings and efficiencies.
In the case of initiatives to do with
operating expenditure, the optimisation
of the maintenance of lines shows the
high potential of leverage between
the search for technical and economic
efficiencies and the decreased allocation
and consumption of natural resources
and generation of waste.
Besides improving the efficiency of the
life-cycle of the assets of lines by reducing
maintenance costs, without affecting
the quality of service and maintaining
the integrity and safety of people, this
initiative allowed us to reduce the
frequency of servicing, thanks to the
measures implemented under ‘reliabilityfocused
maintenance’. In addition to
reducing the maintenance cost per unit
of line, environmental impacts associated
with displacement, use of machinery and
tools, power consumption and cutting
of vegetation are significantly reduced.
These improvements achieve greater
eco-efficiency in one of the service’s
most relevant activities. Identification
and technical/economic analysis have
been made more effective, reducing the
need for checking on the ground by
developing helicopter inspections and
drone flights with high-tech cameras.
