Your guide to Show Homes & New Sections
in the Selwyn District
Local entrepreneurs create
local opportunities
Residents of Faringdon will have shops in the neighbourhood,
when South Point opens, at the end of March 2017.
With two restaurants and an
upmarket fish and chip shop
already signed up, those living
in the wider Rolleston area will
also benefit from this new retail
precinct.
Construction began on South
Point, earlier
this year and
already ninety
percent of shop
space has been
leased. Only two
smaller shops
(each of fifty
square metres)
are now available
for lease.
A total of
eight shops including
upstairs
premises will
be part of this
boutique shopping centre which
is being constructed by sisters:
Jo Southen, Tania Croucher and
Bridget Foster. They grew up in
Rolleston and while Bridget now
lives in England, Jo and Tania are
still locals.
The sisters are passionate
about Rolleston and have completed
land developments such
as Flyndon Grove. Their shared
skills and experience equips them
for this new venture. Bridget is
a Group Finance Manager for
a Property Investment Fund in
the United Kingdom, Tania has a
background in land development,
Jo Southen and Tania Croucher
and Jo previously owned The
Watershed Bar and Restaurant in
Ferrymead.
“We saw the need for a quality
intimate shopping centre,”
explains Jo.
Their aim has been to attract
quality tenants with the line-up of
those who have signed up including
Pedal Pushers from Lincoln
Road opening their second bar
and restaurant at South Point; an
Indian restaurant; Hooked Fish
and Chips; New Order clothing
and accessories boutique; Faringdon
Convenience Store and Post
Shop; and the Selwyn School of
Dance, which will be on the first
floor.
“The convenience store, New
Order, Selwyn School of Dance
and Hooked Fish and Chips will
be operated by locals,” says Jo.
“Both Pedal Pushers and the
Indian restaurant will be employing
locals.”
The two premises still available
would be ideal for a hairdresser,
beautician, gift and homeware
store, or service provider such as
a real estate or property management
office.
South Point will
be just over a 1,000
square metres in
floor space and will
have forty two car
parks on site.
“We wanted South
Point to be different
and welcoming from
all angles as it has
roads on four sides,
so people could
come for a coffee
and not have to walk
through the car park
to get to the other shops. Tom
Craig Architecture designed the
building so it would have no back
while still being a very practical
structure,” explains Jo.
While the complex looks
like one building, it is split.
Pedal Pushers and two shops are
separated by a walkway providing
access to the other shops so
there is no need to walk around
the building and wide eaves offer
shelter between the shops.
Rolleston is said to be underserviced
by retailers so South
Point will help fill the gap and
offer some interesting outlets.
Guy and Kate’s family love
playing tennis.
So we designed their home around
the court to maximise their game time.
