There’s nothing like music to create the desired
atmosphere at any occasion, but a wedding
reception has several phases and needs the right
music at the right time.
As guests arrive at the reception venue, soft background
music allows greetings, introductions and conversation to
flourish. Ideal “mood” makers are a string quartet, a small jazz
band or “café” music on a playlist.
During the meal, background music lets guests enjoy both
the company and the cuisine. Choose instrumental “cocktail”
music that is themed to suit the style of your wedding or lyrics
that are easy on the ears.
The First Dance indicates formalities are almost over and
it is time for the party to begin. You may stay traditional with
a Bridal Waltz or surprise your guests with something fun and
funky instead.
The music that gets your guests onto the dance floor
needs to have a definite beat, be well known with a variety
from all decades to accommodate all ages. A live band creates
excitement and theatre, but may limit the style of music to
their specialism be it jazz, blues, soul, pop, reggae, country,
cultural or rock n roll. Discuss a performance list of what they
will play, how long they will play and ensure the venue can
accommodate their electronic and acoustic requirements.
Alternatively a DJ can cover a lot of musical bases with
a varied choice throughout the evening. Tailor the music to
provide changes of mood and pace from smooth croon to
pumping beats as the party peaks.
You may want to involve other entertainment like karaoke
for your guests, dance demos, jugglers, comedians, soloists and
other musicians or pyrotechnics to music and a laser light show
– so if the music mood takes you, have the time of your life!
