Create an inexpensive lantern<br />

MATERIALS<br />
• Glass Agee jars<br />
(large or small depending<br />
on candle size)<br />
• Design templates or paper doilies<br />
• Adhesive or masking tape<br />
• Coloured or metallic spray<br />
• Copper wire<br />
• Wire cutters<br />
• Candles or tea lights<br />
• Sand<br />
MAGICAL<br />
Light the candle and<br />
watch it shine through<br />
the sparkly design on the<br />
glass. Hang your lantern,<br />
making sure it is level so<br />
the candle won’t tip and<br />
go out. Or place your<br />
lantern on the table as a<br />
pretty centrepiece. For<br />
even MORE sparkle and<br />
shine, stand it on a piece<br />
of mirror glass.<br />

METHOD<br />
Wash the glass jars in hot soapy water<br />
Dry naturally or steam dry in dishwasher<br />
Cut out shapes to make your design template<br />
OR<br />
Use a paper doily with a ready made cut-out design<br />
Wrap the template/doily around the jar<br />
Secure it with adhesive or masking tape<br />
Spray the template with colour or glitter<br />
Allow to dry<br />
Remove template/doily carefully<br />
Wind copper wire round the mouth of the jar<br />
Twist the ends to secure it tightly<br />
Cut the excess wire with wire cutters<br />
Attach a cord or copper wire hook of desired length<br />
Pour an inch of sand into base of the finished jar<br />
Push the candle or tea light firmly into the sand<br />
