It’s not enough to hire a suit, buy a ring,
choose a Best Man and leave the rest to
your Bride! Modern Grooms and “Good
Grooms” are expected to be far more
involved in all aspects of the wedding than
many previous generations.
SHARE THE PLANNING
Getting married is one of life’s most momentous events
and should reflect the beliefs, wishes and ideas of both
of you. Planning a wedding requires commitment,
communication and compromise – a pretty good test for
life in general!
CHOOSE THE BEST MAN
CAREFULLY.
He needs to be more than just your best mate when it
comes to wedding duties. As well as being supportive,
respectful and at ease with guests of all ages, ne must be
reliable and punctual, take his responsibilities seriously
and deliver a speech without mumbling or offending
anyone.
SPEAK WELL
You too must make a speech on behalf of yourself and
your new wife, thanking parents and guests for their
attendance, gifts and good wishes. A good speech should
be fluent, appropriate and sincere, so even if giving a
speech makes you nervous, prepare it, practice it and
keep it simple. Avoid pomposity, verbosity and profanity,
don’t tell lies or mention past relationships and if you
can’t tell a joke really well…don’t!
WEDDING RESPONSIBILITIES
Traditionally the groom is responsible for the Marriage
Licence, fees for the Celebrant and organist, the
Bride’s wedding ring, wedding clothing for himself and
his groomsmen, flowers for the Bride, Bridesmaids,
Mothers of Bride and Groom and buttonholes for the
groom’s wedding party. The groom may also take care of
honeymoon arrangements.
BIG DAY AHEAD
It’s going to be a big day and you want it to be special for
all the right reasons! So…don’t party the night before,
have a big blokes breakfast to stave off nerves and hunger
pangs, be sure you look your best in well pressed clothes
and well groomed appearance, practice your speech one
more time and then arrive ON TIME!
