ARE
YOU
A
With This Ring 27
It’s not enough to hire a suit, buy a ring,
choose a Best Man and leave the rest to
your Bride! Modern Grooms and “Good
Grooms” are expected to be far more
involved in all aspects of the wedding than
many previous generations.
SHARE THE PLANNING
Getting married is one of life’s most momentous events
and should reflect the beliefs, wishes and ideas of both
of you. Planning a wedding requires commitment,
communication and compromise – a pretty good test for
life in general!
CHOOSE THE BEST MAN
CAREFULLY.
He needs to be more than just your best mate when it
comes to wedding duties. As well as being supportive,
respectful and at ease with guests of all ages, ne must be
reliable and punctual, take his responsibilities seriously
and deliver a speech without mumbling or offending
anyone.
SPEAK WELL
You too must make a speech on behalf of yourself and
your new wife, thanking parents and guests for their
attendance, gifts and good wishes. A good speech should
be fluent, appropriate and sincere, so even if giving a
speech makes you nervous, prepare it, practice it and
keep it simple. Avoid pomposity, verbosity and profanity,
don’t tell lies or mention past relationships and if you
can’t tell a joke really well…don’t!
WEDDING RESPONSIBILITIES
Traditionally the groom is responsible for the Marriage
Licence, fees for the Celebrant and organist, the
Bride’s wedding ring, wedding clothing for himself and
his groomsmen, flowers for the Bride, Bridesmaids,
Mothers of Bride and Groom and buttonholes for the
groom’s wedding party. The groom may also take care of
honeymoon arrangements.
BIG DAY AHEAD
It’s going to be a big day and you want it to be special for
all the right reasons! So…don’t party the night before,
have a big blokes breakfast to stave off nerves and hunger
pangs, be sure you look your best in well pressed clothes
and well groomed appearance, practice your speech one
more time and then arrive ON TIME!
The perception that beauty treatments
are only for women is hopefully fading fast
as more men take a pro-active interest
in looking good, feeling good & smelling
good!
Often encouraged by their partners to try
products at home to cleanse, tone and nourish, the
catalyst for getting men to a professional beauty
treatment is frequently THE WEDDING.
Men’s skin is just as susceptible to dryness,
oiliness or a combination as our own. But add the
daily abrasion of shaving and their skin might be
screaming for some extra soothing, hydrating and
moisturising.
First timers can get to grips with the relaxing
atmosphere of beauty therapy with a facial. Simply
put, the skin is cleansed, exfoliated and moisturised.
It’s not scary, doesn’t take forever and
the results are immediately obvious.
In between there will be cool
lotions, hot towels, a neck and
shoulder massage, a hydrating mask,
time to almost-slumber while it works
its magic, then a final smoothing
moisturiser to pamper you for the rest
of the day.
A facial is the very least you should
do for your skin. Of course there are
plenty of other treatments once your
man has got the hang of it. In the
months leading up to the wedding you
can drip-feed the idea of a manicure,
eyebrow shaping, a man-wax and
maybe a tanning treatment.
If he is still not sure, give him a gift
voucher or send him along with the
Best Man to a place that specialises
in beauty treatments for men – some
of them evening have big screen TV’s
and video games while you wait –
painless!
