JACQUES PASQUET<br />

Jacques Pasquet was born <strong>in</strong> France and now lives <strong>in</strong><br />
Québec. Passionate about the world of words and stories,<br />
Pasquet has shared this <strong>in</strong>terest for over ten years with<br />
students <strong>in</strong> primary grades and students at the University of<br />
Québec <strong>in</strong> Montreal where he teaches courses on stories<br />
and on children’s literature, his preferred genre. His most recent book is<br />
L’étoile de Sarajevo, with illustrations by Pierre Pratt.<br />

Né en France, Jacques Pasquet a pas mal voyagé avant de s’<strong>in</strong>staller au Québec.<br />
Passionné par l’univers des mots et des histoires, il a partagé cet <strong>in</strong>térêt pendant<br />
plus d’une décennie, tant avec ses élèves du primaire, qu’avec ses étudiants de<br />
l’Université du Québec à Montréal où il a enseigné les univers du conte et de la<br />
littérature jeunesse. La majeure partie de son œuvre se situe en littérature de<br />
jeunesse. Son livre le plus récent est L’étoile de Sarajevo.<br />
MIRANDA PEARSON<br />
BRITISH COLUMBIA, EVENTS 34, 44<br />
Miranda Pearson is the author of two previous books of<br />
poetry, Prime and The Aviary. Her poems have also appeared<br />
<strong>in</strong> numerous anthologies and literary journals. A graduate of<br />
the University of British Columbia’s MFA <strong>Program</strong>, Pearson<br />
lives <strong>in</strong> <strong>Vancouver</strong> where she works as a freelance editor,<br />
teaches poetry workshops at Simon Fraser University’s<br />
Writ<strong>in</strong>g and Publish<strong>in</strong>g <strong>Program</strong>, and works <strong>in</strong> community mental health care.<br />
Her latest collection is Harbour.<br />
PIERRE PRATT<br />
QUÉBEC, EVENT 2<br />
Pierre Pratt lives and works <strong>in</strong> his birthplace, Montreal,<br />
unless the weather requires that he live <strong>in</strong> Lisbon. After<br />
study<strong>in</strong>g graphic design at Collège Ahuntsic <strong>in</strong> Montréal <strong>in</strong><br />
the early 1980s, he drew comic strips, then later turned to<br />
illustration. S<strong>in</strong>ce 1990, he has illustrated (and written) about<br />
fi fty books for children. His work has received many prizes, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g three<br />
Governor General’s Awards.<br />
PIERRE PRATT<br />
QUÉBEC, ÉVÉNEMENT 2<br />
Pierre Pratt vit et travaille à Montréal (sa ville de naissance), mais aussi à<br />
Lisbonne, quand la température le lui impose. Il a commencé sa carrière artistique<br />
en dess<strong>in</strong>ant les objets qu’il découvrait, les gens qu’il rencontrait... Après des<br />
études de design graphique au Collège Ahuntsic à Montréal, il a commencé par<br />
faire de petites bandes dess<strong>in</strong>ées au début des années 80, avant de se tourner<br />
vers l’illustration. Depuis 1990, il illustre (et écrit, aussi) des livres pour enfants<br />
– environ une c<strong>in</strong>quanta<strong>in</strong>e à ce jour. Il a remporté plusieurs prix, dont celui du<br />
Gouverneur Général du Canada à trois reprises.<br />
KATE PULLINGER<br />
UNITED KINGDOM/CANADA, EVENTS 9, 50, 56<br />
Kate Pull<strong>in</strong>ger was born <strong>in</strong> Cranbrook, BC and moved<br />
to London, England <strong>in</strong> 1982. Her eighth and most recent<br />
novel, The Mistress of Noth<strong>in</strong>g, was the w<strong>in</strong>ner of the 2009<br />
Governor General’s Award for fi ction. Other recent books<br />
<strong>in</strong>clude A Little Stranger, Weird Sister, and the short story<br />
collection, My Life as a Girl <strong>in</strong> a Men’s Prison. With director Jane Campion,<br />
she co-wrote the novelization of the fi lm The Piano. Her digital fi ction projects<br />
<strong>in</strong>clude the award-w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g graphic novel, Inanimate Alice.<br />

PASCALE QUIVIGER<br />
QUÉBEC, EVENTS 20, 51<br />
Pascale Quiviger was born <strong>in</strong> Montreal and now divides her<br />
time between London, England and Italy. Her fi rst novel, The<br />
Perfect Circle (Le cercle parfait), won the Governor General’s<br />
Award for French fi ction and was a Scotiabank Giller Prize<br />
fi nalist. She has a Master’s Degree <strong>in</strong> Philosophy and a<br />
degree <strong>in</strong> F<strong>in</strong>e Arts. Her new novel is The Breakwater House.<br />
ZACHARY RICHARD<br />
UNITED STATES/ QUÉBEC, EVENTS, 17, 26<br />
Environmentalist, cultural activist, poet and songwriter<br />
Zachary Richard’s roots are deeply planted <strong>in</strong> his native<br />
Louisiana. His heartfelt and passionate songs are uniquely his<br />
own. A leader <strong>in</strong> the French language revival <strong>in</strong> Louisiana, his<br />
poetry draws from the rich heritage of Acadian-Cajun culture.<br />
ZACHARY RICHARD<br />
UNITED STATES/ QUÉBEC, ÉVÉNEMENTS, 17, 26<br />
Poète et compositeur, l’art de Zachary Richard colorée par sa Louisiane<br />
natale. Un des piliers de la renaissance cadienne de Louisiane, il est<br />
reconnu partout dans la francophonie nord-américa<strong>in</strong>e pour son engagement<br />
écologiste et son activisme culturel.<br />
ADAM LEWIS SCHROEDER<br />
BRITISH COLUMBIA, EVENTS 7, 37, 59<br />
Adam Lewis Schroeder is the author of the story collection<br />
K<strong>in</strong>gdom of Monkeys, a Danuta Gleed Award fi nalist, and the<br />
novel Empress of Asia, nom<strong>in</strong>ated for the Amazon.ca/Books<br />
<strong>in</strong> Canada First Novel Award and the Ethel Wilson Fiction<br />
Prize. His story, “This Is Not the End My Friend,” appears <strong>in</strong><br />
Darw<strong>in</strong>’s Bastards: Astound<strong>in</strong>g Tales from Tomorrow. His new novel is In the<br />
Fabled East. He lives <strong>in</strong> Penticton.<br />
RICHARD SCRIMGER<br />
ONTARIO, EVENTS 24, 29<br />
Richard Scrimger is the award-w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g author of several<br />
novels, picture books, screenplays and short stories. His<br />
fi rst children’s novel, The Nose from Jupiter, won the Mr.<br />
Christie’s Book Award and his latest adult novel, Mystical<br />
Rose, was a Globe and Mail Book of the Year. His new<br />
book for young readers, Me & Death: An Afterlife Adventure, is the story of<br />
one boy’s experience with the (not so) sweet hereafter.<br />
