TRANSPORTATION www.hawkeyecollege.edu/ce/transportation 319-296-4290 Transportation Commercial Driving 4-Week Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) The four-week Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training program is a self-paced program so you progress through the program as you master the content. This program will teach you how to operate trucks that require a Class B CDL license, such as concrete mixer trucks, snow plows, garbage trucks, and buses. You will develop skills in backing, turning, and safe driving on both rural and suburban roads and become proficient in vehicle inspections. Your training will include individual and classroom instruction and hands-on driving using simulators and fullsize dump trucks. Upon completion, you will take your vehicle inspections, DOT skills, and driving tests at Hawkeye to obtain your Class B CDL. Tuition pays for books and training and does not include a DOT drug test ($50-$100), CDL permit ($12), and DOT physical ($80-$150). Note: Fee for all sections is $1999. Hawkeye’s six-week accelerated Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training program is designed for adults who would like to train for a high-demand career in a short-term time frame. The program focuses on developing safe driving skills including backing, turning, and driving on rural and suburban roads. You will receive hands-on training using full size semi trailers and virtual driving simulators. Upon completion, you will take your vehicle inspection, DOT skills, and driving tests at Hawkeye to obtain your Class A CDL. You receive individual training daily on your schedule, choose your times: morning 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., afternoon 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. or evening 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Graduates can find employment in a variety of areas including, but not limited to a truck driver, spotter, shag driver, and many more. Per FMCSA rules students are required to complete and pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) long form physical and pre-employment drug screening before start of the class. Arrowhead Medical Center is Hawkeye’s approved vendor for the DOT pre-employment drug screening and may be used for the DOT physical as well. Class A/B CDL Refresher Do you currently hold a Class A or B CDL and want to get back into truck driving? Bring your skills up to speed with this 40-hour, hands-on, individualized, refresher course. Get the help you need whether it’s backing, turning, shifting, or maneuvering. The refreshers begin with simulators until skills are mastered before moving to semis with 53-foot trailers for Class A CDL or to a full-size dump truck for the Class B. Note: Fee for all sections is $595. Get the driving skills you need for a school or passenger bus license. Start your hands-on training with driving simulators before getting into an actual bus. Learn to maneuver corners, railroad tracks, backing exercises, and many other real-life situations that take place in urban and rural settings. Complete the class with the skills and confidence to pass the DOT tests. Note: You must have your school bus permit, as well as your school bus and passenger DOT written tests. Using the Skid Monster, a specially equipped vehicle that simulates adverse driving conditions, you gain skills to handle a variety of conditions. Even veteran drivers find this defensive driving course helpful. Law enforcement and other public safety personnel use the same simulators in their training. Note: You must have a valid driver’s license. Learn how to reduce your risk of alcohol or drug problems by understanding and accepting the need to change in order to reduce your risk in the future.
