MALDON FILM CLUB<br />
The season continues with the screening of Victoria on<br />
Wednesday 9th May followed by our final film for 2017/18, Toni<br />
Erdmann, on Wednesday May 23rd.<br />
Victoria, directed by Sebastian Schipper, tells the story of a<br />
young Spanish woman partying in the night clubs of Berlin<br />
where she has yet to set up roots. Her joie de vivre takes her into<br />
the world of four happy-go-lucky young men. However, the<br />
criminal actions of one of them lead to a chain of event from<br />
which Victoria finds it hard to extricate herself. This remarkable<br />
single take filming gives this movie an added reality which<br />
makes the climax all the more shocking.<br />
The last film of the current season, Toni Erdmann, is described<br />
as “remarkably touching and outrageously funny” with an<br />
element of surprise. Directed by double Palme d’Or winners, the<br />
Dardenne brothers, and nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign<br />
Language Film, Toni Erdmann tells the story of an estranged<br />
father who is trying to re-connect with his busy career <strong>focus</strong>sed<br />
daughter and who in order, to do so employs a rather unusual<br />
strategy.<br />
The Club meets at Maldon Town Hall, doors open at 7.15pm,<br />
wine and soft drinks are available, at a charge, from 7.30pm and<br />
both films begin at 8pm.<br />
So with only 2 films still to be shown this season, why not<br />
come along as a guest and pay just £3 per film.<br />
Details of the films to be screened year will be available shortly<br />
and the 2018/19 season begins on Tuesday 11th September –<br />
