INTERNAL RESTRUCTURING<br />
In, 2012, the IA made important changes to its departmental<br />
structure, most notably by creating two new departments.<br />
The first is the Department of Education and Training, reflecting<br />
President Loeb’s dedication to empowering members<br />
with the skills they need to succeed as union activists or in their<br />
crafts. The second was the Broadcast Department, to give added<br />
focus and prominence to broadcast technicians and related crafts.<br />
In addition, the Organizing Department was folded into the<br />
Stagecraft Department. Because the Motion Picture and Television<br />
Production, Tradeshow and Canadian Affairs Departments<br />
each have their own distinct self-contained organizing functions,<br />
the Organizing Department had been focused on broadcast and<br />
stagecraft organizing. “It now makes sense to have a unified and<br />
cohesive organizing and representational Stagecraft Department,”<br />
President Loeb said. “Stagecraft organizing deserves the<br />
advantage of integration like the other Departments have.”<br />
ACHIEVING FINANCIAL<br />
STRENGTH AND STABILITY<br />
The ability of <strong>IATSE</strong> to organize, represent and empower<br />
members depends first and foremost on its financial stability and<br />
strength. Only with sufficient resources and the ability to count<br />
LEADING THE WAY TO EQUALITY<br />
Following widespread revelations of pervasive sexual harassment and assault in the media and entertainment industries,<br />
<strong>IATSE</strong> took immediate action to help ensure safer, fairer, more equitable and accountable workplaces —particularly for women<br />
and marginalized people. President Loeb set the tone for the Alliance, writing, “It will take all of us to agitate for change and<br />
insist, as a matter of course, that women (and all people) are treated fairly. This means a safe and secure work environment,<br />
but also focuses on gender pay equity, equal access to move up in careers and equal respect that creates the dignity inherent<br />
in real equality.”<br />
The Alliance is taking a leadership role in the Commission on Eliminating Sexual Harassment and Advancing Equality in the<br />
Workplace. In addition, the General Executive Board issued the following statement at its 2018 Mid-Winter Meeting:<br />
Equal rights are the cornerstone of the labor movement. Unions were founded on the principle that all people are equal<br />
and all people are deserving of respect and fair treatment. Equality issues run through all areas of trade union activities – from<br />
health and safety to wage negotiations.<br />
The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (<strong>IATSE</strong>) is committed to equality of opportunity and to eliminating<br />
all forms of discrimination. We are opposed to unlawful and unfair discrimination and oppression on the grounds of gender<br />
(including transgender people), relationship or marital status, race or ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, age, language, background,<br />
political or religious beliefs, physical appearance, pregnancy or responsibility for dependents.<br />
We believe that equality for all is a basic human right and we actively oppose all forms of unlawful and unfair discrimination.<br />
<strong>IATSE</strong> leaders and members must be vigilant in working, both with each other and with our employers, to promote an equal<br />
and welcoming environment for all people, through our actions, attitudes, and language. The <strong>IATSE</strong> celebrates the diversity of<br />
society and is striving to promote and reflect that diversity within this organization.<br />
