you. Meditate on it (Psalm 1:2)
and wait to see if God shows you
something. Pay attention, ask a
question and see what impression
God puts in your heart (not
your head response) and get
used to interacting with God.
Yes, He definitely wants to interact
with you. Your listening
skills are the greatest goal of the
prayer life, and the most rewarding.
He has lots of ways of responding,
for example through
pictures, impressions, emotions,
feelings, even smells and sometimes
a word that appears before
you. It could even be through
the words of a friend or an event
at a later moment in time.
Let some of your prayer time
be for listening. Sometimes the
answer doesn’t come just after
the question, but the answer will
come in some form eventually.
He is not a Father who ignores
His children but one who loves
their company and, surprisingly,
their patter! Jesus always did
what He saw his Father doing.
That is how we need to be.
Often his answer will come in
an impression immediately the
question leaves your mouth.
Also pay close attention to your
dreams for our Father often talks
to us through them. Write them
down so you don’t forget them
and ask God to help interpret
them. Dreams are very revealing
and it’s a wonderful study to
gain understanding of them.
God has a plan for your life and it
is through prayer that you will begin
to discover it. What has God
placed you one the earth to do?
He has put many talents into you
and they are there for His purposes,
His glory, and your joy in
obedience.
Prayer is also a way of developing
the trust relationship between
you and your Father. Without
trust there is no conversation,
but as you converse the trust
deepens, the relationship grows,
along with discernment, wisdom,
responsiveness, understanding.
If you trust a doctor you talk with
him. If you don’t trust him, you
don’t talk. Your conversations
with our Father shows the level
at which you trust Him, and that
defines the limits of what He can
do for you. And yes, God loves
you. He is a very, very good Father,
all the time, and won’t let
you down, leave you alone, or
fail to hear your prayer (He collects
them in bowls in Heaven,
especially the tears – Revelation
5:8, Psalm 56:8).
You don’t have to be too careful
with God. He knows exactly
what is going on anyway, but
He loves to hear from you all the
same. Spill it out. God has heard
it all before and His love NEV-
ER FAILS. Isn’t that wonderful?
Whatever bothers you, you are
SAFE with God. Whatever you
have done, you are SAFE with
God. That doesn’t mean He
will not correct you at times. He
does that lovingly for your benefit.
He will also open up new
paths to you, new visions and
dreams. He will escalate your
hope, increase in you the mind
of Christ, provide opportunity (be
awake to this) and generally enjoin
you in the great adventure of
Life (more abundant).
