What should we talk to God about? What would you talk to your own mother or father about, or your best friend. God is interested in all that. What would you not talk to them about? God is absolutely interested in that too. He loves every part of you with a great passion, and prayer is the way to His heart, to understand His passion. There is absolutely no point in hiding anything from God because He already knows it, but while it remains hidden it gripes at you. If you talk to Him about it, it can be put right. You will always have issues to talk to God. But Father’s instruction is “Do unto others as you would have them do for you.” Immediately that suggests we should pray for others because we’d love them to pray for us. It also suggests we have a responsibility to pray for others, because we can, and because the Lord hears and responds. Prayer for others also makes us aware of the needs of others and stops us centering constantly on ourselves and our own wants. Concern for others hopefully will also bring us to do things for others where we can, because faith without action (works) is dead (James 2:14 – 26 and Heb 11:7 – 19). It elevates our ability to recognise need when we see it and respond accordingly. It sharpens our understanding of others and turns our attention out where it needs to be. People whose attention is constantly upon their own problems can get mired in that and become suicidal or very depressed. Christians have not the time for that because they are busy with caring for others. We all live in community and want to live peaceably with our families. Living in community means that some people must be set aside to maintain our lifestyles and run governments. We need the best people so that brings with it a concern with knowledge of community – both local and national – about which we need to pray also, lest they misrepresent our needs or cease to be ethical in their dealing. As Caleb aged eighty at least, ‘took his mountain” when the Hebrews captured their first cities in Israel, so we need to “capture our mountains” in government, education, arts, media, religion, family and business. Wisdom applies here and we need to pray for that. We also need to pray for national leaders because they affect our lifestyle and we need to support those who move ethically and show up those who do not. They also affect our ability to do our work of evangelisation for the Lord. Managing a Nation requires wisdom, so we need to pray for that for our politicians. So you don’t agree with what the leaders of the nation (school, council) are doing? The very first thing to do is “Take it to the Lord in prayer.” If he is wanting more of you than that He will lay it on your heart to get into the field yourself with it. Which ever way it is we need to pray over our leadership and those in authority so that we can live in peace (1 Timothy 2:2). Prayer changes things, and “Ïf my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear form Heaven, and I will forgive their sin, and I will heal their bodies. However, the Lord does not go back on His original gift by taking the reins back from satan This would negate His original plan of giving authority to mankind in Adam. It was man’s decision to give his authority to satan and listen to him above God the Creator. Our Father therefore will only intervene if it is requested by men during their prayers. This leaves men in authority as was the original plan back in the Garden of Eden. It also leaves man with the responsibility for the earth and all that happens here. But it doesn’t leave him without resources for this. “He is invited to come to the Lord with every need he has, to pray land” (2 Chronicles 7:14). “The Lord gave all authority and dominion to Adam, who gave it away to Satan.”(Genesis 2). He is invited to come to the Lord with every need he has, to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). This attitude of vigilant, constant prayer delights the heart of Almighty God who loves to collect (Revelation 8: 3-4) and respond to the prayers of His children, very often with miracles. www.faithfilledfamily.com 93
