were biased by their pro-Protestant views. The<br />

reader must judge whose bias he will accept, that<br />

of the influence of the Protestant Reformation, as<br />

heading up in the <strong>Authorized</strong> Version, or that of<br />

the influence of Darwinism, higher criticism,<br />

incipient modern religious liberalism, and a<br />

reversion back to Rome, as heading up in the<br />

Revised Version. If we select the latter bias, we<br />

must remember that both higher criticism and<br />

Romanism reject the authority of the <strong>Bible</strong> as<br />

supreme.<br />

The predominant ideas of the respective times<br />

of their births influenced and determined the<br />

essential characteristics of the <strong>Authorized</strong> and<br />

Revised Versions. The following chapters will<br />

establish the truthfulness of the position just stated.<br />
