Constantinopolitan text, whether formally official<br />

or not, was the Antiochian text of the fourth<br />

century. It was equally natural that the text<br />

recognized at Constantinople should eventually<br />

become in practice the standard New Testament of<br />

the East.”[11]<br />

Early Syrian Christianity -- which <strong>Bible</strong>?<br />

It was at Antioch, capital of Syria, that the<br />

believers were first called Christians. And as time<br />

rolled on, the Syrian-speaking Christians could be<br />

numbered by the thousands. It is generally<br />

admitted, that the <strong>Bible</strong> was translated from the<br />

original languages into Syrian about 150 A.D.[12]<br />

This version is known as the Peshitto (the correct<br />

or simple). This <strong>Bible</strong> even to-day generally<br />

follows the Received Text.<br />

One authority tells us that, --<br />

“The Peshitto in our days is found in use<br />
