Village Voice June/July 2018 after the meeting revealed opinion evenly divided. The ministerial statement asserts that there is a good deal of local support for a single council but significantly less for two councils. There is no clear evidence for this assertion Both sides presented a reasonable case, but there was definitely no meeting of minds and the two sides are irrevocably divided. We haven't yet commented as a Residents Society as I write this, but may well point out that before a change of this magnitude is agreed there must surely be a more effective and democratic attempt to gauge public opinion to provide a reasonable basis for the eventual decision? A comparatively short delay, would help ensure that there is wider awareness and acceptance amongst the public, perhaps by consulting via parish councils who are closest to their parishioners and have no axe to grind since their role survives or could even be enhanced by either of the proposals. Miles Green Chepping Wycombe Parish Council Now it is spring you will see our grounds team out and about working on CWPC property, upgrading and repairing as well as starting mowing and cutting back hedges and paths. Now the weather is better we will be able to doing things such as putting the stones back in around Widmer Pond. A couple of other things to note - we have a record number of allotment plots filled at Ashley Drive so we are looking forward to a record number of entries at this years village show! We are also now planning to try and finish the play equipment at Ashley Drive and are currently getting in quotes. Katrina Wood Penn Litter Pickers A litter picking session took place on 11 May, The litter pickers group comprised Bill, Roseanna, Kathy, Amelia, David, Jenny and Madalyn and Bill’s patient dog. Previous groups have included Jane, Helen, David and Irene who had tackled Common Wood Lane and Noaks Lane, collecting several bags including the aftermath of a party held in the woods at the bottom of Noaks Lane by the car park. Seven Volunteers collected almost 20 bags of litter along Hammersley Lane. We didn’t get to the bottom so will do it again later in the year when the undergrowth has died back a bit (but before it snows!) Ideas are welcome for the future - Gravelly Way? Our thanks to Joint Waste who lent litter pickers and supplied recycling and waste bags PennFest PennFest (formerly known as Penn Festival) - is a 2 day family friendly music festival with camping returns o Penn Street on the weekend of the 20th-21st July 2018. Maggie Burrows & friends Penn Church Heritage Fund I am Chairman of the Penn Trust, a small local charity which includes the Church Heritage Fund, a separate account set up in 2010 with funds received in response to an appeal from Earl Howe, with the object of providing a permanent endowment for Holy Trinity Church, Penn. The church was founded by 1177, the only Grade1 listed building in the parish, and because it is so very ancient it is correspondingly very expensive to maintain and www.pennandtylersgreen.org.uk Village Voice June/July 2018 repair. One very common misconception is that churches receive direct support from central and/or local government. They do not, and It costs around £1,400 a week to run the church. Many who are not regular church-goers benefit from weddings, christenings and funerals. Whether or not you worship at Holy Trinity, you may well be keen to help ensure that that this invaluable historic asset is conserved for the benefit our children and grandchildren, either with a donation or by making a legacy in your will. If you are interested, please get in touch with either myself (815589) or the Vicar, the Revd Mike Bisset (816700). We will be pleased to send you a small booklet which sets out the church's remarkable history.
