Jewellery-making may be an ancient
profession but leading edge technology
and excellent customer service is what
sets Hamilton’s Goldsmiths Gallery Designer
Jewellers apart.
Anthony Licht, who established the gallery
in 2000, is at the forefront of technology,
design and technique. Anthony has two stores
in Hamilton, one in Victoria street, and
the second in Chartwell Shopping Centre.
Goldsmiths Gallery Designer Jewellers has a
superb front store that is a showcase for their
large range of unique, hand-made, imported
and NZ manufactured jewellery, as well as an
award winning workshop with four qualified
jewellers working with him.
Anthony was the first jeweller in New
Zealand to use CAD computer programming
and a Roland wax milling machine, allowing
customers to see a 3D image of their unique
piece of jewellery before it is created. To remain
at the forefront of the industry he has also
invested in a 3D printer, and he now produces
models of jewellery design from resin.
Using the CAD programme, Anthony
creates 3D images of bespoke rings, pendants,
earrings, bracelets and brooches, which can
be viewed from all angles. This allows for
proportions, dimensions, shapes and colours
to be arranged and altered, achieving a
perfect, unique and breath-taking piece.
Wax models are then made to the exact
size of the finished product.
“This is much more cost effective to the
customer as it allows any changes to be made
simply, with a few stokes of the computer
keys. Then it gets cast into the metal of
choice, perfectly, first time,” Anthony says.
Anthony and his wife Michelle have
owned and operated Goldsmiths for 18 years,
establishing the business after moving from
South Africa. They have built a reputation of
professionalism and integrity with their blend
of quality workmanship and competitive
prices. The business has grown as a result of
this reputation. The gallery is also a registered
member of the New Zealand Jewellers and
Watchmakers Association.
Anthony learned his craft as an apprentice
of his stepfather in Johannesburg, and he
relishes the process of creating customdesigned
jewellery to last a lifetime.
Remodelling jewellery is an integral part
of the business. “We specialise in recycling
jewellery. Customers come to us with
sentimental heirlooms that aren’t quite their
style, or simply old jewellery that they never
wear. Remodelling existing jewellery is a
great way to bring your jewellery back to life
or recycle something precious.”
