SOUTH WOODHAM
020 South South Woodham Focus
MORE THOUGHTS ON SOUTH WOODHAM DEvELOPMENT
So, the Plan goes forward. Despite the fact that no result of the
questionnaire the council sent out has been published so
transparency seems to be missing on this subject. As far as I am
concerned I am totally convinced that even if every resident in
Woodham objected to the plan the development will still go
ahead for the following reasons.
Westminster wants more houses built and despite the fact that
a massive development is taking place on the outskirts of
Chelmsford which, by the look of it will ultimately be bigger
than South Woodham it is very convenient to stick another
bunch of properties here because every house, shop, and factory
unit will be subject to tax, so they satisfy the requirements of
their lords and masters in Whitehall and do very nicely thank you
We are still carrying the highest rate of tax despite dwindling
services. We are A VERY EASY EARNER for the Chelmsford
council.
There is a requirement to provide a base for travellers so under
the euphemism of ‘travelling entertainers’ Chelmsford can meet
this requirement well away from their own doorstep. And they
call people like me a NIMBY!
The developers will undoubtedly be giving the council a
handsome sum of money’ for the development of services’. I
wouldn’t mind betting that we will experience very little in the
way of this money or services, it’s too tempting to use it nearer
to home.
Despite the residents objecting the petrol station went ahead
and now further desecration of our rural environment is going
to take place by building a fast food place where landscaping
would be so much more suitable. This is evidence that no matter
what we, the people who will have to live with the after-math
say, Chelmsford will go ahead anyway.
The plan will undoubtedly go through with a big rubber stamp.
Why else would they be building a massive structure like the one
we can see when coming down from top Woodham? A shop that
size will need a lot of customers.
I know that I have regularly commented about the developers
platitudes. Their interest lies purely with making money and they
will build to make as much money as possible and hang the
environment. As far as they are concerned paying for a good
public relations officer who can say all the things the city council
want to hear is money in the bank.
I wrote the above comments before I read Kevin Greens
comments in a recent Focus and I have avoided, thus far, making
any comment of a political nature but I must agree with Mr.
Green in this case. It is blatantly obvious that no matter how hard
or how many residents protest the group who are supposed to
be representing us, the people, will always be biased in favour of
their political paymasters. After all, wouldn’t you want to protect
your income before worrying about what people think of you?
The city council goes to bed at night and sleeps well knowing
that they will get approval from their masters and who knows
what from the developers?
I am reminded of words from Douglas Adams’ Book The
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy wrote “Resistance is futile” just
before the earth is destroyed.
