Now What?
By: Dan Hyde / Call to Action
Now that this election cycle is over, what’s
next? If you think for one minute that
the newly elected crop of politicians are ready to
govern, you’d better think again!
What’s coming next is (wait for it) ANOTHER ELECTION! Already,
a slew of power hungry politicians are on the prowl for the next office
they seek.
Republicans are planning their strategy on re-taking the House of
Representatives they just lost to the Democrats and the election is two
years away! A politician will never publicly admit it but governing is
a necessary side-bar of what it is they spend most of their time doing.
I’ve spent over 40 years actively engaged in running and participating
in campaigns and can categorically state - politicians are ALWAYS
running for office again and spend an average (some a great deal
more) of 30 hours per week soliciting campaign contributions for the
next election!
How do I know that? Because, without exception, that’s what they
tell me! One of the worst addiction society is forced to deal with is an
elected official’s craving for POWER - getting it and most importantly
KEEPING it!
To do that, they need money and a lot of it! They are forced to
continuously solicit donors - that’s you and
me, and the big corporate honchos.
Money is the lifeblood of any successful
politician’s life! They need to have enough of
it to insure that any potential future opponent
will be intimidated enough not to challenge a
well-funded continuously recycled politician.
And to do that, they need to raise always
funds and that interferes with what we hired
them to do - GOVERN!
Republicans - Roll up
Your Sleeves
By: Victoria Seaman / Victoria’s Corner
Editor’s Note: As outlined in last month’s
edition, The Vegas Voice no longer has a
“Democratic voice” to (respectfully) oppose Victoria’s articles. It is
still our goal to hear from both sides of the aisle. If anyone reading
this wants the “job” please email me at: dan@thevegasvoice.com.
As we all head into the holidays and beyond, we have so much
to be thankful for as people, spouses, parents, and grandparents. As
Republicans, we have considerably less to be thankful for after the most
recent election cycle.
While election day delivered mixed results for Republicans across the
country (losing the House of Representatives but adding seats to the
Senate) in Nevada, the results were nothing short of a beating. At every
level of government, with very few exceptions, we lost.
And we lost big - sending a Democrat governor and Democrat
legislature to Carson City, and another to the US Senate. In the State
Assembly, Democrats have a 2/3 majority.
When situations like this occur, it is easy to point fingers and start the
blame game. But it’s counterproductive.
Could campaigns have done things different? Are the state and/or
local parties to blame? The answer to those questions, and a lot more,
has to be a resounding yes. Unquestionably Republicans should have
done better.
At this juncture, the answer is to not turn on ourselves, but enjoy the
holiday season with our loved ones and take time to pause and reflect.
After the first of the year, it is imperative that we roll our sleeves, unite
as Republicans, learn from our mistakes, and start working hard and
with enthusiasm toward the goal of winning in 2020.
Remember: we are Republicans. When we lose, we don’t protest
in silly hats, riot, set cars on fire, stand in the streets and scream,
or threaten to move to foreign countries. We come back bigger and
stronger to win. And win, we shall.
