concept called Easy Control
for their FFS (form, fill, seal)
packaging line. The solu tion consists
of various modules that can
be individually tailored to the
needs of the customer. One of
the modules allows the integration
of third-party equipment,
such as metal detectors,
inkjet printers and weighing
scales, into the line management
systems. Thus the operator has
only to learn one system. Another
module enables making
status alerts available on mobile
devices. The machine can report
upcoming roll change, for
which the most efficient route
can be planned in advance. An
office function offers the opportunity
to pull and analyse all of
the production data in the backoffice.

Grips.world, which opens

packaging machines and communication
with customers. The
platform will enable customers
to access the system production
data from anywhere worldwide.
Data sovereignty lies entirely
with the customer, who has the
opportunity to activate an access
for a service technician. The collected
data help to identify potential
problems at an early
stage, thereby avoiding downtime
and unplanned service
calls. In the future, the system
will forward error messages or
possible causes of an impending
failure to the responsive employee,
e. g. via mobile devices.
The packaging machine is
equipped with a particularly developed
machine interface for
secure remote maintenance and
data transmission.

Online monitoring of valve seals
Krones presents an intelligent valve with the option to
monitor the seal’s situation in the installed state. This valve
is an outcome of a development project launched by Evoguard
and Syskron. Seal monitoring is achieved by a sensor
cable connected to the seal for signal interchange. Signal
lamps on the valve that light up in the colour codings
green (OK), amber (schedule replacement) and red (replace)
provide the operator with a visual indication of the
valve’s condition. In parallel, the data additionally obtained
directly from the seal are integrated via an A/D converter
to the data pool of the key performance indicators (KPIs).
They supplement information with regard to a machine’s
performance, such as the number of valve strokes and their
duty time, which are thereupon automatically available in
a cloud solution. The client can then access the data for life
time analysis using an app on a smartphone or tablet. Alternatively,
the valve could automatically send a notification
to the manufacturer that replacement is required
and evoke a purchase order.

is an easy to use X-ray powder
diffraction (XRD) instrument. It
is accessible for everyone – its
built-in touch screen with the
intuitive interface directly displays
all results. At the same
time Aeris is designed for low
cost of ownership – it only
requires a single-phase power
outlet and needs neither cooling
water nor compressed air.
Nevertheless, as the instrument
incorporates many technologies
proven on Panalytical’s high-end
systems, its performance is exceeding
typical benchtop X-ray
diffractometer performance.
Data quality and speed of data
acquisition have so far only
been observed on full-power
systems. Additionally, Aeris is
fully automatable and can be incorporated
easily in industrial
production control.
