Over 400 Residents Protest Against Plans
to Develop on Bamford’s Greenbelt
Over 400 Bamford residents came out
in force, in a co-ordinated month of
protests across Greater Manchester to
oppose the GMSFs plans to develop
on Greenbelt Land.
Children, Pets, & adults met on the Village
Green in Bamford and then walked with
their banners and loud hailers across the
targeted publicly accessible Greenbelt land
that has been ear marked for development
for 450 executive homes. This is the 3rd
march in 2½ years since the first draft was
released and is abundantly clear that the
anger and passion hasn’t wavered in
Bamford to stop this development.
Prior to the start, Sean Clowes, Chairperson
of the Save Bamford Greenbelt, appealed
again that if residents want to stop this, they
must take their opportunityto have their say
by submitting their concerns on the GMSF
consultation portal.
Since the public forum the SBGB committee
have secured meetings with Andy Burnham
along with the head of Rochdale council
Alan Brett and local MP Liz McInnes. Each
of the meetings has been productive
however the communities need the
evidence that the elected members are
doing everything in their power to represent
the public who voted for them to avoid the
loss of any Greenbelt land. There is still a
way to go but at least the groups are now in
dialogue which is starting to feel more like
a consultation process.
There are stillmany concerns over the 2nd
draft plans especially around the base
forecast 2014 ONS figures which are
controversially being used instead of the later
2016 version which reflect a significantly
lower forecast population increase.
