Adopting the 2016 statistics would
potentially negate the need to develop on
any Greenbelt sites and is major focus
across the groups, which has now invoked
a Government petition to be raised.
Further to this there is also a complete
scientism and lack of evidence that
brownfield or urban development sites
have been fully exhausted and that the
councils are doing everything in their power
to support this. A recent study by one of the
members of SBGB committee has
uncovered a further additional 12 sites that
may suitable and has now been provided to
the local MP.
Finally there is the issue of availability
currently Peel Holdings own only 1/3 of the
land on the Bamford development site with
the rest being owned by local landowners,
one of those David Mills whose family have
farmed the land for over 100 years and
recently addressed residents at Bamfords
open forum advising that he and his family
hadn’t asked for this and don’t want it. They
feel under constant threat that potentially
compulsory purchase may be invoked.
This scenario has been put forward to each
of the above leaders all of whom have
indicated that CPO should not come into
play in circumstances were peoples homes
and livelihoods would be impacted who
don’t want to sell. However, in the absence
of a firm commitment the future for these
residents is still uncertain, we have
requested from Andy Burnham for firm
policy to be implemented within the GMSF
that would protect people’s homes and
livelihoods from CPO.
Residents are urged to get involved by:
