Friends of Bamford Following the Annual General Meeting in February, Friends of Bamford now have plans in place for what we hope to do in 2019. First though, an update on the plans for the Community Garden at the back of Bamford Green, which is best summed up as ‘no change yet.’ Environmental Management at RMBC have helped us with detailed plans of what we want to do, and are currently applying for funding on our behalf, to get at least the basic clearing of the site, path laying etc, done, but the Council wheels turn slowly, so at the moment no change. Watch this space. Saturday 6th April 10.30.am Great Spring-clean and Litter pick around the Green Belt. There has been much activity concerned with Save Bamford Green Belt recently, but rather less so about looking after it in the first place. The undergrowth and hedges have recently been cut back, and a shocking amount of litter exposed. Public spirited members of the public are already helping to collect it, as are Bridge Football Club, but we hope to clear all of it by a concerted effort on the 6th of April, before the undergrowth grows back and hides it for another year. Please spare an hour to help, many hands make light work, and let’s return this precious resource to the way it should be. Meet on Bamford Green, 10.30am, we will go ahead unless it is absolutely pouring down, in which case, same time, same place following week, or first fine Saturday. Friday or Saturday evening - Late June/Early July (date to be decided.) ‘Allo ‘allo versus Eyup! Bowling Club, with competing teams representing Rochdale and Tourcoing. We hope to expand this to include a French themed evening inside the Clubhouse, with food, possibly fancy dress, so you don’t have to be on a team to attend. Onion sellers and Clogs and Flat caps welcome! Details are yet to be worked out, but if you would like to be included in either the Bowling or Boules teams, please contact us, beginners welcome. friendsofbamford@gmail.com or ring Susan on 01706 633544 A Saturday/Sunday aftenoon in August - Fun Dogshow on Bamford Green An amazing number of dogs came on the Green Belt Protest Walk, so Bamford Dog Walkers are going to hold a fun dog show since there are so many. Nothing serious, Waggiest tail, simple agility, recall alley, fastest Bonio eater etc. Date to be decided. October Halloween Event Details to be discussed, but probably involving Kids Fancy Dress, Treasure Hunt etc. On Bamford Green, with POSSIBLY also something in Bamford Bowling Club in an evening. Saturday 21st December Carols on The Green We have already booked the Brass Band again for this growing-in-popularity Community Event, on the last Saturday before Christmas. Keep an eye on the Bamford Green Notice Board, or follow us on Facebook, Friends of Bamford, for updates on all events as they get firm dates. Hope to see you all soon at one, or all, of our events.
