In my own words Immer mehr Unternehmen wollen digitale Technologien aus der Industrie 4.0 einsetzen. Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, ist ein schrittweiser Einstieg die richtige Wahl. More and more companies want to utilize digital technologies from Industry 4.0. To achieve this goal, starting gradually is the best route. „Wir wollen digitale Technologien nutzen“ – das ist heutzutage das Motto in nahezu allen Unternehmen. Häufig entsteht dabei der Eindruck, es gebe so etwas wie einen digitalen Königsweg. Doch das ist ein Irrtum, denn Digitalisierung bedeutet in jedem Unternehmen etwas anderes. Die ersten Schritte in eine digitale Zukunft muss also jedes Unternehmen für sich selbst definieren. SCHRITT 1: Der Aufbau von eigenem Know-how Das größte Hindernis ist für viele Unternehmen das fehlende Digitalwissen, ganz besonders im Top-Management und bei den Inhabern. Deshalb ist der Aufbau von Know-how ein zentraler Schritt auf dem Weg in die digitale Zukunft. Dazu gehört nicht nur die Lektüre smarter Präsentationen, dazu gehören auch reale eigene Erfahrungen mit digitalen Technologien. SCHRITT 2: Digitale Kompetenzen stärken Doch Wissen und Fähigkeiten im Bereich Digitalisierung sind meist nicht schnell und per Nachschulung aufzubauen. Deshalb sollte gerade für die ersten 4.0-Projekte auch die Rekrutierung externer Digitalexperten in Betracht gezogen werden. Sie haben einen guten Überblick über alle Themen rund um die Industrie 4.0 und bringen vielfältige Erfahrungen mit. SCHRITT 3: Pilotprojekte und iteratives Vorgehen Für den Beginn der digitalen Reise ist auf jeden Fall ein vorsichtiges und iteratives Vorgehen empfehlenswert – also Agilität. Unternehmen beginnen idealerweise mit einem abgegrenzten und nicht zu aufwendigen Pilotprojekt. Dazu sollten sämtliche Prozesse und Routinen unter die Lupe genommen werden. Denn es gibt in jedem Unternehmen einfache Abläufe, die mit digitalen Technologien schnell effizienter gemacht werden können. Fazit Das digitale Unternehmen ist nicht in einem Schritt zu erreichen. Es ist auch nicht möglich, im Vorfeld zu erkennen, wie es genau aussehen wird. Deshalb ist es besser, keinen umfassenden „Fünf- Jahres-Plan“ zu entwerfen, sondern auf die wichtigste Erkenntnis von Start-ups zurückzugreifen: Die Nutzer eines Produkts oder eines Service entscheiden über seine künftige Entwicklung. Manche Funktionen werden mit Begeisterung aufgenommen, andere kaum genutzt. Die Weiterentwicklung sollte sich also an der tatsächlichen Nutzung orientieren und Schritt für Schritt die Digitalisierung ausbauen. ■ “We want to use digital technologies” – that is the motto of almost all companies today. This often gives the impression that somewhere out there, there is a digital silver bullet. When in fact, ‘digitization’ means something different for every company. Each company must define the first steps into a digital future for themselves. STEP 1: Establishing your own expertise The greatest obstacle for many companies is a lack of digital knowledge, especially among top management and owners. That is why developing expertise is a key step on the path to a digital future. This includes not only looking at smart presentations but gaining real experience with digital technologies. STEP 2: Strengthening digital skills Knowledge and skills with regards to digitization often take time to develop and cannot be easily strengthened through training. For this, companies should consider recruiting external digital experts, especially for their first 4.0 projects. Experts offer a good overview of all topics related to Industry 4.0 and have a wealth of experience. STEP 3: Pilot projects and iterative approach A cautious and iterative approach is recommended when starting off on your digital journey – in other words: agility. Ideally, companies should begin with a limited and not too complex or demanding pilot project. Here, all processes and routines should be scrutinized and analyzed. Every company has simple processes that can be improved with regards to efficiency using digital technologies. Conclusion A digital company is not made with just one step. It is also not possible to know in advance how exactly things will develop. It is therefore better not to establish a comprehensive “five-year plan,” but instead rely on startups’ most important source of insight: users of a product or service decide on its future development. Some functions are received with enthusiasm, others are hardly used. Further development should therefore be based on actual use and digitization expanded in a step-by-step manner. ■ 38
