Eight point
plan revealed
BENISSA Mayor Arturo Poquet
(Partido Popular) and
members of his team unveiled
their eight key projects
in a press conference
this week, with the first
item being approval of the
new budget without which
the whole package will
presumably be in doubt.
by Simon Russell
The General Structure Plan
also needs to be approved and
it is hoped to submit this
to the Generalitat by June
next year after the initial
procedures are followed.
Other goals include boosting
tourism, the construction
of a new town hall, a new
football pitch and athletics
track plus the building of a
municipal auditorium.
These ambitious proposals
represent a four year plan
for Benissa, said Mr Poquet,
as the town enters a period
of political stability compared
to recent years.
FRIDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER 2019 19
Calpe
THREE people, two men
and a woman, have been
arrested in connection
with a spate of burglaries
on an urbanisation in the
municipality in August.
They have initially been
charged with five counts of
theft and breaking and entering
relating to incidents on
the Maryvilla development.
At the time the group
has a top speed of 45
kmph and engine power
equating to 1,600 watts
according to the Calpe police,
who fined the rider of
one €1,500 recently.
Everyone will have noticed
out of Calpe by a Citizen Security
Unit and asked about
items they were carrying in
the vehicle.
The officers cross checked
them against computer records
of missing or stolen
goods but as there was no
reports they were allowed
on their way. However a
few days later, presumably
because the properties were
unoccupied at the time of the
theft, the reports did come
in and the trail led back
to the three people in the
car leading to their arrest
this week.
Further arrests and
charges have not been ruled
out say the authorities.
in the number of such machines
buzzing around recently,
something legislation
is struggling to keep up
with.
However as far as the
police were concerned this
ride-on “scooter” was effectively
a moped and needed
to be registered and insured,
which it wasn’t when
they stopped it on Calle
Doctor Fleming.
Calpe itself has no specific
bylaws on the vehicles,
leaving the police to judge
the matter within the
framework of the current
legislation, something that
may prove controversial to
some but many will also approve
of.
