Eyes
PRETTY WOMAN
HEADS UP WEST
Hard to believe that the movie Pretty
Woman is nearly thirty years old, yes
thirty.
The box office smash, starring
Richard Gere and Julia Roberts, first
released in 1990, is a classic story
focusing on an eccentric sex worker
by the name of Vivian Ward who
is hired by wealthy businessman
Edward Lewis to escort him to several
high-flying social and business
events.
Fans of the film will be delighted to
learn that a musical adaptation of the
movie will hit the West End stage on
Valentine’s Day next year.
The Piccadilly Theatre will play host
Boris and
Theresa?
to Pretty Woman: The Musical for a
very limited run, with Bryan Adams
stepping in to helm the tunes.
No word has been released on who
will play the lead roles, but I’m
guessing that Boris Johnson and
Theresa May aren’t in the running.
HOLOGRAM WHITNEY ON TOUR
Not sure how I feel about hearing
that a Whitney Houston hologram
is set to tour the UK next year,
according to reports.
Apparently, though details are still
sketchy, the show will be staged
by Base Entertainment, which has
previously produced holograms
of Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison,
with one based on Amy Winehouse
apparently in the works.
The concerts are set to feature
many of the major hits released by
Houston, who passed away in 2012.
I Wanna Dance With Somebody
(Who Loves Me) and The Greatest
Love of All are expected to be
included, with the New York Times
reporting original band members
and backing singers are lined up to
perform alongside the hologram.
I suppose for diehard fans the
chance to hear a flawless Whitney
perform again is hard to resist,
particularly as some of her last
Whitney
on the wall
appearances prior to her death
were plain embarrassing.
Mind you I went to a Chris Rea
concert once and may aswell have
been watching a hologram……He
had as much personality as the
wall.
PROUD OF PRIDE
Homolulu
2019
You may recall last week I wrote
that I would be taking part in the
Benidorm Pride parade along
Levante Beach last Saturday on
our Homolulu float.
Well, I’m very happy to report that
we had a fantastic time, despite a
few technical hitches, leaving us
without music for a large part of
the route and torrential rain as we
decorated our transport.
Huge thanks to everyone who
jumped onboard and walked
alongside and to those who
helped get it ready.
This year’s festival was one of
the best, so congratulations to
everyone involved, organisers,
performers, participants
and spectators.
Benidorm has had a tough year,
with a negative campaign waged
against us by certain parts of the
UK media, so it was nice to give a
big finger to all the Beni knockers
and show them that when we want
to, we can put on a show to beat
them all.
GRAHAM’S IN IT FOR
THE LONG HAUL
Having recently reached an age
where, had I stayed in the UK, I
would almost certainly already
have retired, but as I live and
work in Spain, the chances of
me finishing work are next to
zero, I was comforted to read the
thoughts of chat show supremo
Graham Norton.
Speaking on what the future
holds on US radio show SiriusXM,
Graham said: ‘What I might try
to do is just cut back on my
workload. Then I would be able to
stare at a wall, write a book, walk
the dogs…’
However, he added that friends
who have retired have convinced
Teenage
daydream
Graham
him that it’s a terrible idea.
‘What’s odd is, when you stop
working you become a teenage
girl,’ he said. ‘You start obsessing
about minutiae. I don’t want to
turn into that person.’
You’re right Graham, neither do I,
but I don’t want to stare at a wall
either.
Jamie’s Out
So this year’s Strictly Come Dancing hasn’t
even reached the live shows and already
there’s been a casualty.
Made in Chelsea’s blond bombshell, Jamie
Laing has pulled out owing to an injury
sustained in training.
He quit at the weekend after damaging
a tendon in his right foot during a
group number, claims that he told his
professional dance partner, Oti Mabusi,
about his ailment but she told him to grin
and bear it.
“It felt like someone had hit me on the back
of it with a belt. like stepping on glass,”
said Jaimie, “I grabbed Oti and said, ‘Oti
something’s happened to my foot,’ and she
just went, ‘Dance.’”
There’s been lots of speculation that Jamie
will return to Strictly next year, but for this
Jamie’s quit
Strictly
series he has been replaced by Emmerdale
hunk Kelvin Fletcher, who plays Andy
Sugden in the Northern soap.
Not quite chalk and cheese ….. more like
Moet and a mug of Yorkshire tea.
