Crimes Against Children & Mandated Reporting Requirements<br />

Paula Broome, Bureau Chief, Special Assistant Attorney General, Bureau of<br />

Victim Assistance, <strong>Mississippi</strong> Attorney General’s Office<br />

Paula Broome is the Bureau Chief, Special Assistant Attorney General with the Bureau of Victim<br />

Assistance in <strong>Mississippi</strong>’s Attorney General’s Office. She develops and conducts statewide<br />

training for law enforcement, prosecutors, and community groups on the topics of domestic<br />

violence, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking. She was instrumental in developing a<br />

20-hour domestic violence course for law enforcement cadets that has been implemented in all<br />

<strong>Mississippi</strong> Law Enforcement Academies. She also developed and teaches a multi-day course<br />

on domestic violence, sex crimes and human trafficking that has been added to the curriculum<br />

for the Certified Investigators Courses offered at two state law enforcement academies. Paula<br />

has played a key role in the development and passage of state legislation dealing with domestic<br />

violence crimes, stalking, human trafficking, and civil and criminal domestic abuse protection<br />

orders. Paula has also partnered with the United States Department of State and the U.S. Embassy<br />

in the Dominican Republic to provide legal instruction on the prosecution of human trafficking<br />

and smuggling for Dominican prosecutors. She also serves as a faculty member for the Sexual<br />

Assault Nurse Examiner Course and has served on the <strong>Mississippi</strong> Domestic Violence Task Force<br />

and the <strong>Mississippi</strong> Human Trafficking Task Force.<br />

Paula has received numerous honors for her work, including being presented with the Harvard<br />

University’s “High Honor Award” for outstanding contributions in the governance of American<br />

Indian Nations for her work in developing the <strong>Mississippi</strong> Band of Choctaw Indians Family<br />

Violence & Victim’s Services Program, selected by the American Bar <strong>Association</strong>, Commission<br />

on Domestic and Sexual Violence, as the recipient of the 2016 “Sharon Corbitt Award,” which<br />

recognizes outstanding contributions by an attorney in the field of domestic violence. In addition,<br />

she is the author of a chapter entitled “Domestic Violence” which was published by the West<br />

Group in 2001 (revision 2016) for its <strong>Mississippi</strong> Practice Series, Encyclopedia of <strong>Mississippi</strong> Law,<br />

and compiled a domestic violence manual for prosecutors.<br />

Paula holds a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology from Millsaps College, a Master of Science<br />

degree in criminal justice from Northeastern University, and a Juris Doctorate from <strong>Mississippi</strong><br />

College School of Law.<br />
