Responsibilities of the MNA Board of Directors<br />
President .................................................................................Debra Allen, MSN, RN<br />
The President, elected at each odd-year convention, serves for a two-year term.<br />
• Presides at Board of Directors’ meeting and the MNA House of Delegates<br />
• Represents the <strong>Association</strong> in all official matters<br />
• Serves as a representative to the American <strong>Nurses</strong>’ <strong>Association</strong> Membership Assembly<br />
• Appoints committees and the members of same with the approval of the Board of Directors<br />
• Keeps the Board of Directors informed on matters of importance to the <strong>Association</strong><br />
• Reports activities of the Board of Directors to the Membership<br />
Vice President .......................................................................... Tonya Moore, PhD, RN<br />
The Vice President, elected at each even-year convention, serves for a two-year term. The Vice<br />
President is responsible for activities related to membership which includes, but is not limited<br />
to, recruitment, retention, and member services. Additionally, the Vice President presides in the<br />
absence of the President.<br />
Secretary ................................... Johnnie Sue Wijewardane, PhD, APRN, FNP-BC, FAANP<br />
The Secretary, elected at each even-year convention, serves for a two-year term. The Secretary<br />
is responsible for record keeping and reporting of meetings to MNA; embossing signature as<br />
required on documents to meet official requirements; and performing other duties as is usual and<br />
customary to the office.<br />
Treasurer ...................................................................Carl Mangum, PhD, PMHNP-BC<br />
The Treasurer, elected at each odd-year convention, serves for a two-year term. The Treasurer<br />
works with the Finance Committee and the Executive Director in running the financial affairs of<br />
the <strong>Association</strong>.<br />
Director, Council on Advanced Practice ....................... Shonda Phelon, DNP, RN, FNP-BC,<br />
PMHNP-BC, GNP-BC<br />
The Director of the Council on Advanced Practice, elected at each even-year convention, serves<br />
for a two-year term. The Director shall be concerned with issues related to the advanced practice<br />
nurse including federal and state legislation and government policy, scope and standards of<br />
advanced practice nursing and the ethical and legal aspects of advanced practice nursing.<br />
Director, Council on Health Affairs.....................Alena Lester, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, ONP-C<br />
The Director of the Council on Health Affairs, elected at each even-year convention, serves for a<br />
two-year term. The Council on Health Affairs is responsible for assisting with activities relating to:<br />
the relevant, scientific and educational development and changes in health needs and practices<br />
and delivery systems; state and national affairs, legislation, and policies; and serves as liaison<br />
with other health organizations for the advancement of health care.<br />
Director, Council on Nursing Education ..................................Tomekia Luckett, PhD, RN<br />
The Director of the Council on Nursing Education, elected at each odd-year convention, serves<br />
for a two-year term. This Council is specifically responsible for recommending continuing<br />
education policy and revisions to the Board of Directors. The Director is responsible for meeting<br />
with the Provider Unit, a standing committee under the Council on Nursing Education.<br />
