Achieving Happiness Keisha Blair, author of viral article, My Husband Died at 34. Here Are 40 Life Lessons I Learned from It, will release a new book on Nov. 5. Titled Holistic Wealth: 32 Life Lessons to Help You Find Purpose, Prosperity, and Happiness, it will expand on the teachings in her article, presenting strategies for balance and success. Her new book includes interviews with more than 100 trailblazers, influences and celebrities including Dr. Dinorah Nieves (“Dr. D”), the coaching consultant on the Oprah Winfrey Network’s Iyanla Fix My Life, and Tia-Clair Toomey, widely regarded as the fittest woman on earth. SALAD 1 cup warm garbanzo salad 1 cup quinoa tabbouleh ½ cup shaved pickled cucumbers ½ cup Garden Goddess power kraut (premade by local brand) GARBANZO SALAD ½ cup Kalamata olives, halved ½ cup roasted red peppers, sliced TABBOULEH DRESSING 1 Roma tomato, medium diced ¼ yellow onion, medium diced ½ jalapeno, seeded Juice of 3 lemons QUINOA TABBOULEH 1 cup quinoa ½ cup parsley 3 ounces dressing PICKED SHAVED CUCUMBER 1 cup cider vinegar 1 cup water 3 tbsp peppercorns 1 clove garlic 1 cucumber HERB YOGURT ½ cup Greek yogurt ¼ cup cucumber, chopped deseeded 1 tbsp fresh dill 1 tbsp fresh parsley Juice from 1 lemon Probiotic Bowl Recipe and photo by Farm & Craft, www.ilovefarmandcraft.com. 2 cups garbanzo beans ½ cup grape tomatoes, halved ¼ bunch of fresh parsley, chopped ½ cup organic avocado oil 1 tbsp sea salt 2 bay leaves 1 tbsp whole black ¼ cup spinach 1 tbsp agave nectar Salt and pepper For garbanzo salad: Place all items on medium heat in a pan and cook down for about 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. For tabbouleh dressing: Combine all ingredients except for oil in a food processer blend on medium speed and slowly drizzle oil in till it all comes together, then season to taste with salt and pepper. For quinoa tabbouleh: Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix together. For pickled shaved cucumber: Bring all ingredients except cucumber to a boil and lower to a simmer for 15 minutes. While that is simmering shave cucumber as thin as possible into a separate bowl. Strain the liquid over the cucumbers and place in fridge to cool. For herb yogurt: Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth. To assemble salad: In a bowl place warm garbanzo salad, top with tabbouleh, pickled cucumber, power kraut. Finish with a drizzle of the herb yogurt sauce. Veteran Support HeroZona Foundation and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes will host the third annual National Veteran Summit Nov. 5 through 7. There are 640,000 veterans, 38,000 active duty service members and 1,000 veteran-owned companies in Arizona. This year’s summit theme is advancing economic opportunity for the military community. The experience will feature executive roundtables, an awards dinner, an employment summit, a career fair, a Bridge Forum on mental health, and workshops. The first two days of the event will take place at Sheraton Crescent Hotel in Phoenix. The third day will have events at Talking Stick Resort Arena, with the Military Appreciation Night with the Phoenix Suns as the conclusion to the summit. The event is free and open to active duty service members, National Guard and Army Reserve, veterans, military spouses and caregivers. www.herozonasummit.com. Giving on the Greens Scottsdale Active 20-30 Club’s NiteFlite Golf Tournament will return this month, celebrating its 30th year. The tournament, which will raise money for Arizona-based children’s charities, will take place on Nov. 15 at McCormick Ranch Golf Club, with a 10 a.m. shotgun start. This year, NiteFlite will have new party tent that anyone can purchase admission to without signing up for the actual golf tournament. Admission to the tent ($100) will include access to watching the tournament as well as food from the Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers food truck, drinks and a live DJ. There will also be corn hole, pop-a-shot and break-the-glass competitions. Additional fun festivities will include long drive and long putt contests, a beat the pro contest, a raffle drawing, and the 19th Hole Million Dollar Shootout. www.2030nf.org.
